Lotsa Various Stuff :o)

Diary: Week of 17/11: Lecture, essays, Fraggles and Hobbits :o)

The weekdays proceeding from the seventeenth consisted mostly of lectures on such things as Plato's forms, Nietzsche's perspectivism, jealousy and emotions in general, and logicism in mathematics, so generally fairly interesting stuff and little to complain about really.

The study hour on Nietzsche was very good as I got to discuss comparisons of Nietzsche's Perspectivism to Immanuel Kant's Transcendental Idealism, which was a lot of fun and will be rather groovy if I get to write my exam question on that topic :o)

The Mathematics study hour on Thursday was useful also in pin-pointing some of the issues I needed to spend more word count on in my philosophy of Maths essay on Benaceraff too.

Did a few essays too, including my first proper write up of my Ancient Philosophy essay on Perminides and the pluralist pre-Socratics and it came to 2200 words. Also, I suddenly realised that I had a book with an entire chapter on the topic of my exam topic for Nietzsche (the ascetic priest) and it was written by no less than the guy teaching me about Nietzsche who was also going to mark my essay, so with that in hand I wrote a 2100 word essay on Nietzsche too!

And all that was fairly groovy as it put me in the position of essentially having done most of the work for all four essays and only really needing to do various polishing work :oD

Fraggleonspeed appeared from no where on the Sunday with no prior warning (or so I shall maintain anyway...) so I entertained her by letting her watch the copy of Bright Young Things she had left around mine, which seemed to keep her fairly happy so I think I deserve a pat on the back :o)

After that I had the pleasure of being invited out to The Hobbit by littlecyberalex so me and fraggleonspeed made out little ways up there to meet him and thepussyakt, angryangelto, girgogoescrazy and a workfriend of littlecyberalex's and I drank much of the Hobbit Cocktails, had lots of geeky conversations about Games Workshop with littlecyberalex and his friend, and me and fraggleonspeed pondered the identity of the little ugly hobbit in the hobbit sign (thepussykat solved the problem by noting that they corresponded to the five hobbit cocktails) :o)

After that we retreated back to thepussykat's house and slept :o)

Diary: Week of 04/12: Lecture, Essays, cinema, and London :o)

Had my usual round of lectures, although I skipped all the lectures on Tuesday because I had stayed up late on Monday working away to get all my essays in a state whereby I could consider them around abouts ready to hand in, including a dramatic re-write of the ending of my mathematics essay because I had come to the conclusion that the stuff I'd written in regards to a Kantian approach to mathematics was very confused and really just outright wrong.

Had an absolute ton of help from elegy_of_flames in tidying up my essays as her grasp of the English language turns out to be rather superior to mine despite being Greek :o) Also on a few key points helped me sort out the content of the essay as well as the expression, which was also fab :o) Makes me a lot more confident about them in any case :o)

By Friday I had printed basically final copies of all my essays and handed them over to my parents for a final proof-read :o)

Was slightly disturbed on the Monday night because I had put some eggs on to boil before doing my essays and forgot about them entirely, it wasn't until I was walking down the stairs to print the essays off that I heard the firealarm ringing, and had to walk past my brother, who was sleeping on the living room couch, to go take the burnt eggs of the stove, and then try to quiet the firealarm. My brother woke up once the alarm started going on and off as the smoke kept setting it off every time I managed to get it to stop, despite having slept all the way through it.

My parents didn't wake up at all :o/

Thursday I went down the cinema with Fraggleonspeed to see Pan's Labyrinth which I thought was very good. As a warning for people it's set in the Spanish Civil War and it is entirely in Spanish and subtitled in English. I actually think I prefer it that way, there's something that never sits right with me when I see a film portraying a foreign country and everyone talks English with either an English or an American accent :o/

Was a very good, and very dark film. It's not only a dark fantasy as portrayed in the trailers and advertising, but it's a very dark portrayal of the Spanish Civil War as well, which it deals with just as much as the fantasy plotline.

The name is a bit misleading; Pan is not in this movie. There is a Faun, but he's never referred to as Pan (the faun mentions he has had many names, but he does say he is a faun). The faun is great, not at all like C. S. Lewis' faun if you're wondering! A very dark elemental type of faun :o)

I shalln't say much more because I don't want to spoil anything! :oD

Saturday I was off to London with fraggleonspeed and angryangeltoo :o)

Even before we arrived Fraggleonspeed had brought Christmas presents which she told me to open rather than carry around all day, so I am now proudly in possession of a Monkey plushie, a bottle of Cookies and Cream flavour Sidekick, and a custom designed tshirt with my VF signature image printed on it along the the line 'Pretentious? Moi?' at the top :oD

When we arrived we headed to Ben Crouch's near Oxford Circus because I hoped to see some friends there :o) Didn't end up talking to many of them as by the time I'd arrived a lot of them were kind of crowded in one one another and the pub was very busy so it wasn't exactly excellent mingling condition.

Apparently horrorb0y and psychodolly had already left long before I arrived, which leaves me wondering who the short blonde girl I hugged before leaving was if she wasn't horrorb0y... Well, she knew my username so I hope it wasn't so entirely inappropriate... meh. Probably wasn't a terrible thing it turned out that it wasn't them because the boy whom I took to be psychodolly (whom happened to be describable in brief as short, effeminate, and with long dark hair just to really confuse me...) seemed to be pretty miserable all the time. :o/

I bumped into them both later at Slimelight, although it took until after the weekend had passed until it clicked into place that the people I'd said hello to and waved at whilst at Ben Crouch's was not actually them... :o/

We decided that it was just to crowded in there and moved on anyway. angryangeltoo wanted to head to Devonshire Arms, which I suspected would be just as crowded but I turned out to be entirely wrong and it was surprisingly quiet and we got our own table to sit at, which was pretty groovy :o) They were also playing the silent movie version of Phantom of the Opera on their projector screen which was rather groovy, especially as later at Slimelight I spotted the satirisation of the unmasking scene in Gremlins II :o)

Slimelight itself was rather good, although the headache that had been growing inside of me all day was getting more and more distracting, and I was feeling unusually sensitive to the cold, even towards the end of the night and when I was going home and I'd wrapped myself in three layers of clothing including a thick velvet hoody. I'd been told that I was actually quite hot so I presumably had a bug of some kind.

But I did dance a little, and I saw lots of people, met up with halluciphy and mudgetheotter shortly after arriving, as well as some people I often see down there, some people from VF and myspace, eldritchreality, and Zarah which was all pretty good and fun :o)

Oh, and of course, I bumped into the real horrorb0y and psychodolly down there as they ambushed me whilst I was coming out of the toilets :o) I was muchly shocked by horrorb0y's lack of sympathy for poor little Gismo when he got his hand crushed in the closing draw during Gremlins II though :o(

I was met a young girl who I was introduced to by her mother, and found myself feeling very odd in that after she'd asked me what I was interested in and I was talking about my philosophy degree I asked her what she did, and thus she told me 'School' :oO

At least it was her last year of school and she was sixteen I suppose... Still, think I'd be a little bit more aware of people's ages :o)

The way home involved much sleeping *nods*

Got home, slept, got woke up by a call from Fraggleonspeed about coming over, slept some more, went over to see Fraggleonspeed. Not sure that I should have done really, as she was mean about me when we were eating fast food shortly after arriving in London by saying that she's lost weight because she hasn't been spending so much time with me. She accused me of always buying fast food and ice cream when she's about and thus fattening us both up. So incredibly untrue.

Anyway, so after I'd arrived to see Fraggleonspeed and bought two super-sized pizzas, a tub of Ben and Jerry's Chocolate Fudge Brownie ice cream and a litre of coke we settled down to watch Blade Runner, which didn't seem as fanatastic as people made out, but was enjoyable none the less :oP

Meme: Star Trek!

Hmm, acceptable, I guess I need to work on my trekiness some more :o)

Probably a couple of people who'd disagree with this, but hey... go me :o)

Your life is pretty darn perfect. You don't have much to complain about.
Of course, your life is occasionally less than perfect. But you're usually too happy to notice.
