Diary: Week of 14/08: Films, body image, Edge, House Party, Symphony in Black
Monday wasn't a particularly active day, which has been true for me for the last couple of weeks now I suppose. Highlights included a pair of spiders invading my room to pick on me. There was one huge chunky spider just by my headboard, one of the ones with a legspans about a couple of inches across if not more, and huge bodies, ick. Then I spotted another more thin one the other side of my room, leaving my trapped in the middle.
Fortunatly I got my mother to rescue me and she took them away and put them outside. Evil spiders.
Also caught an interesting program about body builders and mental illness. I forget what they termed it now but it discussed a body dismorphic disorder similar to aneorexia but where the builders just don't believe they've ever got enough muscle, and hence end up with obscenely grotesque bodies in a ways similar but also radically different to aneorexia. It also showed how this was not just a matter for the body building section of the population, in a similar way to how Barbie dolls have been getting even more and more unrealistic over the decades, the action figuires for boys have been increasingly getting unrealistically muscular. A professor on the show compared a Luke Skywalker action figuire from when the film was released to one now to show the change in bulk which was rather significant (and ridicolous given that the Luke Skywalker Character wasn't a bulky character at all)
Also saw some weird cartoons on AdultSwim which is on late night television I just discovered that evening.
Tuesday I went to see fraggleonspeed so I went around wuzzard333 and the three of us watched Neverwhere which is a programme I haven't seen before. Very good though, it plays around with a man who lives in London and who is bored of his normal life and discovers 'UnderLondon' which is a surreal other type place very different to LondonAbove, is very hard to describe but I know a lot of people on my friend's list would enjoy it :o)
Feel asleep whilst the last episode was playing though because I'd been up all night watching odd television on Monday, so I never did find out what happened to the Angel of Islington... oh well, good excuse to watch it another time :oD
Went downstairs and caught bits of Strange Days though again slept through parts of it :o)
Wednesday I woke up and me and fraggleonspeed went into town to do a few odd things before travelling to Bittern in hope of visiting the Boot Repair shop because I know they repair zips on New Rocks and for reasonable prices, alas it was not to be because the shop closes early on Wednesdays. Later we discovered that it was also shut for a couple of weeks, so poor fraggleonspeed shall have to go without her boots for a little longer until it opens again :o(
Ended up getting a lift back home to mine where we watched Trainspotting, first on my pirate dvd copy until it stopped working, and then more sensibly using my elder brother's legitimate copy (it is indeed true that pirate copies are fairly crap, used to work in my old machine though). We did all this whilst eating ice cream that I discovered my parents had bought me for my birthday and neglected to inform me off, and drinking lots of lambrini, which went rather quickly really. After that we watched a few episodes of the BBC Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy series whilst drinking white wine and eating lots of pizza :o)
Thursday saw a lot of slouching about. Me and fraggleonspeed tried to watch Kingdom of Heaven before realising that there wasn't enough time before she needed to be at work, so we watched Black Books instead (which was a new expierence for me). Then she went away and I was lefted alone. Fortunatly there's always the computer to keep me company though :o)
Friday I didn't wake until five, which managed to give me a bit of time to get ready to get to Edge by ten, would have done fairly well had it not been for the Internet being distracting, such as it being one of the few times that elegy_of_flames managed to get online, great to be in contact again if ever so briefly though. Anyway, didn't arrive at Edge until past ten which meant five pound entrance which was a bit annoying, but worse things have happened. Met up with Fraggleonspeed which was nice although the place itself was rather empty.
Lesbian Kaz and a friend of her's was there which made the night a bit more interesting, though I still have a hard time dealing her rather loud and overbearing attitude and persona, but it seems at least a few people find it more than okay to deal with. Not everyone's personality can mesh perfectly with mine I suppose. It's not as if she's ever done me any wrong in any case I suppose, just something of a personality clash... :o/ Loud boastful people seem to fall short on me, no one that bigs them up that much can ever hope to live up to what they present themselves as, though I should suppose that's just one reaction to insecurity. I do quite like pretension in it's own way, but only when the pretension is realised for what it is and isn't taken seriously, when people start to take thier own pretensions seriously that I don't like nearly as much.
Went back with fraggleonspeed to wuzzard333's after buying chips. starfyrephoenix mentioned she had an online WoD game which I of course dutifully tracked down. Hollowdreams.org. It would appear that the link in her livejournal is now incorrect however, shall probably mention that to her at some point :o)
Saturday involved me staying in bed whilst fraggleonspeed went to and from work, and then us heading back to mine so I could get ready. Alas at this point in the week I was rather utterly skint so I had to borrow bus fare money, sorry fraggleonspeed! :o) After saying goodbye to the Fraggle and leaving her at work I went home were again I was rather absorbed with the Internet before managing to sort myself out to go to _pheonixrising and halluciphy's house party, which was much fun with lots of people.
Went back with fraggleonspeed that night back to wuzzard333's
Sunday once again fraggleonspeed had been to and back from work before I'd woke, and I mercilessly poked her out of bed so we could get up in time for Symphony in Black, but only after heading back to mine first so I could make some kind of effort to get presentable. Alas things were a little bit quiet during the first three bands which was all the poor fraggleonspeed got to see, although the music wasn't bad, and i nparticular I thought the vocalist of the first band (Novelty Dolls?) was particularly good.
However the last three bands were among the best. Voices of Masada I realised I'd seen before whislt in London but forgotten, despite actually being very good, if I wasn't so damned poor all the time I'd consider buying thier work :o) Screaming Banshee Aircrew were brilliant all the way through, great all around. Dust wasn't really my thing but certainly managed to create the right sort of atompshere for a gig.
Plus I also got to get free pizza by stealing all the extra pizza that people didn't want after ordering too much :oD
Walked back to Wuzzard333's after it ended to see fraggleonspeed, watched parts of something very odd on television that Shaun and starfyrephoenix were watching before going to bed :o)

This is a fairly recent attempt of a random person to speak to me. I'm getting them once or more a day in some form of another, so I get tired of engaging with them. fraggleonspeed seemed to think this was just a little bit harsh of me, but I console myself with the fact that the girl had come from VF, she'd gone through several warnings that I wouldn't talk to her when getting my msn details. In short, she'd seen my picture, apparently decided by pure evidence of my pictures that I was 'nice', skipped past the great big 'PLEASE READ' boxes on my VF, took my msn details and added me without any forewarning.
Apparently though my little stalker friend decided that my signal that I didn't want to talk to her wasn't enough, so she emailed me
