Cyclone Larry

Once again my hometown has been throughly thrashed by Mother Nature & still stands defiant *blows raspberry at Mother Nature*.

After an extremely harrowing couple of hours this morning of wondering what was happening to my parents & other family members in Innisfail & the surrounding areas as result of Cyclone (Not A Happy) Larry, I am relieved to report that all are well. 'Cept Dad who may have cracked a couple of ribs after slipping over trying to wedge the roller door back into place after it blew in. Unfortunately the trees haven't fared so well with all the leaves being stripped off, several being up rooted or having limbs torn off.

I don't think I've been so scared in all of my life, well not since Cyclone Winifred when I was 6. It's truly terrifying wondering if family & friends are ok. The things that flash through your mind when the phone rings out are utterly horrendous *shudder* My imagination has been banned from any future involvement in situations like this, I don't think my heart could take it again.

I'm dreading watching the news tonight in case there have been any casualties in the area but Mum & Dad seemed fairly confident that property & crops will be the only things damaged (which of course leads to whole other range of problems for the local economy but one disaster at a time). The flooding that will result from this could cause a bit more damage to property & crops but the full extent won't be known for a couple more days.

To anyone else with friends & family up in Far North Queensland, I hope they fared as well as my lot did & my thoughts & prayers are with all of you.
