Character Name: Hideyoshi Ushiromiya
Character Series: Umineko No Naku Koro Ni
Character Age: unknown (40s or early 50s)
Background: Series wiki and specific episode wiki. Post-death from the Tea Party.
Personality: When Hideyoshi is first introduced in the visual novel, he is described as "very sociable and good with kids". He is the most cheerful parent in the group, and the least vitriolic.

His relationship with his wife, Eva, is one of support (and mushy true love). Whenever she begins to doubt herself, he arrives on scene to tell her how he's never regretted anything in his life with her and how he could never hate her (as she sometimes fears). He's slightly goofy with her - claiming to be able to chase away her nightmares by squeezing her hand (and saying "squeeeeze" while doing it) and so forth - but she seems to find it endearing, so it works for them. At times, he defers to her (he says nothing when she berates her sister-in-law, and he took her family name without any fuss) but at others, he is the mediator, calming her when their son reveals that he's proposed to a lowly servant girl and excusing her and her "bad manners" when a family discussion gets heated. It seems that he's aware of her slightly vicious side, but isn't deterred by it.

As his introduction states, he is good with kids. He teases his nephew Battler about eating too much (warning him that if he gets fat like his uncle, he'll make girls cry) and seems pleased to see his nine-year-old niece Maria (and disappointed at not being able to see six-year-old Ange). Although he's less elegant than the other parents (he "has trouble controlling the volume of his voice"), he seems to get along well with them, and calls them "brother" and "sister" as though they were blood relations. He mentions being happy to have a family in the Ushiromiyas, since his biological family all died in World War II - hence why he took his wife's name.

It should be noted that, despite the goofy antics and inelegance, Hideyoshi is also a capable businessman. Details about his company (a restaurant chain) are scarce, but it's mentioned that he built it from the ground up and that its growth shows "promise". He is willing to team up with the other parents and confront the eldest, Krauss, in order to get him to share the inheritance money with them, and in the third game he volunteers to help Kyrie and Rudolf carry food from the abandoned mansion back for the others.

Although he's a large man, he does not generally resort to violence (noogies don't count). He occasionally calls Eva "idiot", but it seems to be more of a nickname (perhaps a warning that she's getting too angry) than an actual attempt at being cruel. He may have an interest in cowboy films, and may be superstitious. His son George mentions that Hideyoshi was the one who gave him "fortitude" or "perseverance".

He often speaks with a Kansai accent, but is actually from Kanto, and appears to be faking it just to impress people.

Abilities: Hideyoshi is a normal human and has no supernatural powers (although he does claim to have a "magic hand" that cures his wife's fevers and chases her nightmares away). He is described as "well built with a bit of fat".

Sample Entry: Ya know...it's not that Western food ain't good, or that the ladies here are bad cooks, but I'm startin' to miss some of the stuff we had back home. It's summer here, ain't it? We'd be eatin' yakitori at the Gion Festival around this time...

[He trails off, to reminisce. After a moment, he brightens.]

Of course, every kind of food has it's own merits! And it's important to try new things! I'd never reject somethin' before givin' it a taste. There's always the chance it'll be my next favorite dish! Maybe I jus' need to get out more! Eva, let's go out tonight! My treat, of course!
