OCD Combat

I'm learning, slowly but surely, to take control of my OCD(s).  Through a combination of planning, self-monitoring, and sheer will power, I'm happy to report that I've gone not one, not two, but FIVE DAYS without cleaning my apartment.  No vacuuming, no dusting, not even straightening the blankets I keep on the back of the couch.  NOTHING.

Damn I'm proud of myself.  For those who don't know why I would be so excited about this, up until a month or so ago, I couldn't go more than 3 days without thoroughly cleaning something.  Bathroom, kitchen, apartment, SOMETHING.  And when I say clean, I don't mean just wiping down a countertop with one of those silly Clorox wipes.  I'm talking busting out the heavy duty gloves, pulling out my portable super water steamer, the Oxyclean, and the scrub brushes.  I would clean everything top to bottom.  No corner was safe.  I would spend 2-3 hours on a weekday, and 4-5 hours ever Saturday and every Sunday, cleaning.

Just how deep is deep cleaning?  I pull everything out of my closet, just to dust and wipe surfaces down.  I clean the little ledge above doorways.  I wipe down and clean the blinds.  Hell, I REMOVE the blinds sometimes and wash them in the bathtub.  Which of course makes me clean the bathtub.  And since you can't clean just the bathtub, you clean the bathroom.  *sigh*

Don't even get started on the fact that I change the sheets on my bed every 2-3 days.

I'm screwy, I tell ya.  However, I'm getting better.  As I said earlier, I went 5 days without cleaning anything.  Aside from the daily necessary wipe down of kitchen counters and dining room table tops, that is.  I feel that's acceptable, because otherwise...that's just nasty.  I still change my sheets, but now it's ever 4-5 days.  That really bugs me, though, so I'll probably go back to every 3 days.  That seems to be best, don't you think?

Hmm...just how often do ya'll change the sheets on your bed?
