Affiliation: Link is always up for a challenge, so he’d probably be a Trainer undergoing the League Test en route to being the Champion. Then again, he’d be a lot more concerned with any nefarious Team Rocket activity than earning badges for its own sake.
Personality: Link puts others before himself almost 100% of the time, and is quick to take personal responsibility for other people’s problems. He might absentmindedly forget his own birthday, but if you want a letter delivered to someone on an island miles away, he’s your man. The boy is capable of being very serious and stoic, but around his friends and family members he’ll let his guard down a little more and smile. Link is humble and usually polite, though he’s not above a bit of teasing.
But if someone he cares about is in danger, all bets are off when it comes to his clear-headedness-he’s actually tried to run straight off a cliff in an attempt to save his sister from a monster that was hundreds of feet in the air. People sometimes have to talk him out of foolishly running into danger that would basically be suicide. Once he knows what needs to be done Link is determined, patient, and extremely stubborn in carrying out the job. If there is any chance whatsoever (and even if not) that there is something that he can do to complete a necessary task, he’ll set out to try and do it. When knocked down, he’ll get back up again. And again. And again. He’s willing to travel across an entire ocean for the sake of someone he cares about, and he won’t give up even if the odds are impossibly stacked against him.
Besides acting out of personal concern for others, Link has a strong sense of overall justice and righteousness. When a straightforward, if daunting, rescue mission for his sister turned into a quest to save the entire Great Sea, he undertook the task and never once complained about it. Obviously, Link is also extremely brave, a trait that was always present in him but especially developed over the course of his journey, as he was chosen as the next bearer of the Triforce of Courage toward the end of his adventure.
Link doesn’t speak very much, preferring simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answers, although his face is usually expressive enough to show what he’s trying to get at. He’s not mute-he can yelp, grunt, laugh and even scream-but good luck trying to get more than a sentence out of him at a time. Because of this quiet nature, people seem more inclined to open up their own personal problems to him and talk. This gets him sent on a lot of sidequests…
Strengths/Weaknesses: For a child his age and size, Link is physically very strong: he has enough upper body strength to support his own weight (not to mention wielding a giant sword), and can take a serious beating. He’s a quick learner and skilled with a wide variety of weapons. However, he can lose his head completely when someone he loves is in danger, and has a habit of overestimating his own strength-and losing badly as a result. Or, even when handling himself fine in a battle, he’ll get so wrapped up that he ends up fighting to the point of complete exhaustion.
On that note, Link is very accustomed to physical combat and would probably have a hard time adjusting to staying back and directing a pokémon team. And since there’s little in the way of modern technology in his own canon, he’d find it difficult to master devices like the Pokégear/Poké Balls/etc.

First Person Sample:
[The image is dark at first, with blurry moving shapes, until it becomes apparent that small fingers are tapping on the screen and obscuring the light. The hand pulls away and a face zooms in, with large blue eyes inspecting the strange device.]
…
…Oh?
[The face pulls away, revealing the person on-screen to be a young boy with blond hair. He sets the PokéGear on the ground, unaware it is still recording; then kneels, and begins to pull out objects from a backpack-although he has some trouble opening it. He’s dressed strangely, in a green tunic and white leggings, and he eyes the clothes extracted from the bag with a quirked eyebrow.
His eyes snap back to the PokéGear, obviously hearing something. He picks up the device again and peers intently at the screen.]
‘Hoy?
Third Person Sample:
Link generally enjoyed the walks between towns-the routes were usually sunny and full of vibrant life, and he liked seeing all the earth instead of the endless water he was accustomed to in his own world. He’d been distracted by two bickering Rattata when it happened-a blunt pain shot abruptly from the back of his head all the way down his spine, and Link tumbled forward into the grass. While his eyes were still unfocused there was the vague sensation of hands grasping at his belt, and then the sound of running footfalls dulled by plants.
He struggled against the pain to get to his knees, shaking his head to clear it. The blurry shape of a large, fast-moving black thing was still visible ahead, and the boy gritted his teeth in anger at being attacked. As he stood he reached instinctively for a Poké Ball and yelped in horrified surprise upon finding that only one of his three remained. He’d been robbed.
There was no thought. Panicked, he ran blindly, eyes fixed only on the figure in black, ignoring everything else in his path. He had to get his pokémon back. He couldn’t let them get away with his pokémon…!
Link was small but fast on his feet, and before long he had nearly caught up. The Grunt looked back but the boy lunged before he could so much as shout, and they both went down. Hating that his sword and shield were gone, Link fought as best he could, rolling and kicking. It was easier than he’d thought; but then, he was facing a man this time and not a monster.
Unfortunately, a well-placed punch in the eye sent the trainer staggering back, and the Grunt had enough time to release his Murkrow. It cawed and with a flap of its wings the area blackened. Link couldn’t see anything.
When the light returned, the man was gone and so were all the pokémon. Link stared blankly in front of him feeling lost for a few moments, but then his eyes narrowed as he began to race for the nearest town. He had to figure out a plan to get his pokémon back!
