Legaversary: Behind the scenes - Chapter 20
Today marks four years since I posted the first chapter of the Discworlds on Boolprop. Even doing an alphabet legacy I really didn't expect to still be working on it now (especially not to be only on generation 5) but oh well. A lot has changed in those four years, when I started it was written in first person and there was little to no plot, now I've change to third person and have plot coming out of my ears (I also like to think my writing and picture taking have improved).
I was planning to do something special to mark the day but that little project has grown into something bigger and is taking longer than I expected. Instead I present the behind the scenes for chapter 20.
Chapter 20 consisted mainly of stuff I needed to get out of the way so I can get on with plot (as will chapter 21 and, probably, chapter 22). This is a legacy after all so there have to be births and birthdays, hopefully not as many per generation in future though. The chapter was fairly evenly split between university and the main legacy lot, so I'll split this post similarly.
University
I'm rather proud of Dorian's new dorm, it's the first dorm I've built from scratch and I really like it, admittedly I've only decorated Dorian's room and the public areas so far but still. Most of the pictures I used in the chapter existed mainly to show off the lot.
Things aren't quite as perfect as I made out, these two dormies are constantly arguing. I expect them to either get into a fight or hook up by the end of Dorian's time at university.
I am playing Dorian properly through university. He mainly works on his skill (he started out with very few skill points, he's now got at least 6 points in each) and earn money through painting and novel writing.
Edward and Dorian are constantly heart-farting each other, it's sweet but a major pain to shoot round.
Um.. I'm going to leave it to you to caption this one, I can't think of anything that isn't dirty.
The Greek house got a makeover this chapter, mainly because I was sick of the drab walls (I'm not sure what I was thinking originally)
The colour scheme is much brighter. I've still got the room with the stereo and three of the bedrooms to do as I ran out of money, once Esk and Eric move in I'll do those rooms too.
There were lots of parties at the Greek house this time (more than appeared in the chapter), Edward invited a couple of potential matches for Errol to the first one, they didn't work out though:
I like Maria better anyway.
Lots of visits from the mascots and cheerleaders too (I ended up banning them for the lot - I couldn't take the cheering and pranking anymore).
Apparently neither could Viola:

Viola and Sebastian are the only cousins I know I'm definitely playing after graduation, mainly because I love Viola (and take too many pictures of her) so I play them at university too.

Viola's not been left out of the romance. She's a pleasure sim though (and he's romance) so no plans for marriage for these two.
Speaking of romance:
THIS NEVER HAPPENED!! You can see that Maria is in her old hair so this happened before the last party. The reason I changed her hair? A miss timed cc purge.
Main lot
First I want to talk a little about Dorfl and Sim!Widget's research project. I could have just gone with the same sex pregnancy without a comment, after all Druellae and Viola did it without all this work, but given I'm going for a semi-realistic world (albeit one with aliens and magic) I wanted to make a plot point of it. It also prevents the over-population possible with both sims in a couple able to get pregnant, maybe I'll have the technology advance in the future to make it easier, but for now only Edward will be able to get pregnant. Doing this also allowed me to reintroduce Sim!Widget back into the legacy.
She can be sweet,
slightly insane,
and will pass judgement on your children when they're being stupid.
My focus may be shifting away from Dorfl but he still amuses me
Yes he does have a ton of outgoing points (I'm not quite sure how Edward ended up with so few)
And he seems to appreciate his wife's eating habits.
Teen Esk and Eric were the focus of part of the chapter, they'll probably be the youngest of the kids to be properly included in plot (certainly the youngest to get their own subplots), I love them all but I can't focus on ten kids, it's hard enough with six.
I've started giving my some of my sims their secondary aspirations based on how they act rather than just an arbitrary roll of the die. Esk was pretty easy, she did stuff like this:

Eric wasn't much harder, there's always been something about him that said knowledge to me (although I don't think it would work as his primary). His date to the birthday party was actually a matchmaker drop:
Her first action was a swoon and her second was to talk about aliens, perceptive or insensitive? (Eric may not have the colouring but he does have his father's eye shape)
I decided it wouldn't be part of Eric's character to pay for dates so she became just a friend from school. She wasn't his first conquest anyway:
