Yes, see, those couches can be a hazard. You never know when one will get hungry, though in some places of the world (such as Peter Pan's basement), you can count on them to be hungry all the time.
I also get your dream, in connection with Jane Eyre! So the Giant symbolizes your mother's previously secret, crazy husband (perhaps a giant because he's a pretty big secret), and he was upset about the whole thing (your dad, you, Erin...) and vanished your mom's eyeballs (though, unlike in Jane Eyre, in this case without using fire). And the psychic abilities... was just a slip-up of your dreaming brain -- it actually meant psycho.
