Went to the Oregon Zoo in Portland yesterday with
ladyforash and her sister, Lynn. The day started out beautiful: bright sun, puffy white clouds in a blue sky, temps warming quickly from the upper thirties to the mid-fifties... Perfect. Then we hit the road and within minutes the forecast changed to cloudy skies and scattered rain. Well, this is Oregon, right?? lol We all had some kind of hooded shirt or jacket, we'd deal, right? Uh huh, yeah, right. By the time we got there, the rain was neither scattered nor just showers. So, we paid our admissions and bee-lined it to the gift shop to buy umbrellas. No, it didn't rain the whole time, there were nice breaks with enough sun to entice the lions into the open, but we were grateful for the brollies when the hail came in the late afternoon.
The Dinosaur exhibit was brand new, just opened the day before, and it was very cool. They moved, they grunted, one even sounded like it had gastro-intestinal issues, and several of them spit! The one with the big triangular head and little stubby arms cracked me up when those little tiny arms wiggled!
I don't always get the best pictures even under the best conditions, so about half of what I took yesterday was garbage. Between me trying to be slick and snap quick one-handed photos, holding the umbrella, low light conditions with no flash, and other general excuses issues, I'm lucky to have any decent pictures at all! lol The penguin pictures are a perfect example. We had excellent timing and got there right at feeding time. Trying to capture the frenzy proved difficult though, at least for me, because I kept trying to show the action. Um, yeah, still pictures of moving objects at low aperture/shutter speeds does not make for crisp clear photographs. I tried, and that's what counts, right?? :)
Anyway, the photo album is
here.
Feels like I'm missing or skipping something, but I don't have time to figure it out now. It's time for my weekly standing date (walk) with Ru, then to the gym in an attempt to work off all the extra calories from dinner last night at the Cheesecake Factory. Maybe later tonight I can edit/update if needed. I'll try to add titles & descriptions to the photos.
Oh, yeah, almost forgot about the Chimpanzee. Jeez, he was like a train wreck! Do you remember the video of the chimp a few years ago? Yeah, well, that must be a normal chimp thing because this guy did the same thing over and over! Scratch, sniff, scratch, sniff, scratch, sniff. When he first did it, everyone was like "wait, did he just do what I think he did?" Yup, he did! Freaking hilarious.
Ok, gotta go now. Later!! ::hugs to all::
