Sitting in the Airport

Jan 13, 2010 08:48

I have conceived this blog with the help of my partner-in-crime for the Thailand trip, James Atherton. It is spawned from too much free time sitting in the Cedar Rapids airport waiting for a new flight - our original flight was cancelled unbeknownst to us and we were forced to change airlines so we could make it to Chicago in time to catch our plane to Tokyo. Sleep deprivation, mixed-up airlines, and a lot of “hurry-up and wait”-ings have left me curled up in an uncomfortable chair at the terminal watching a beautiful sunrise over the snowy landscape. It is actually quite lovely, from in here, but I must confess I will not miss the snow or the cold in Thailand! As it is, this has been a little anti-climactic so far - I don’t mind the confusion or the chance to sit and think, but I suppose I was expecting a little bit of something more…. interesting? I suppose we’ll be getting enough of that soon, though. I am of yet still dry-eyed, though that will most likely change once it finally sets in that I am about to fly far away to spend three whole months in a foreign land. I’m just hoping the home-sickness will be delayed for a while - I’ve never been out of the country before, nor have I been away from my mom for so long, and I don’t know how I will deal with it. Hopefully our plane will be boarding soon, so I will bid adieu for now.
