I just finished reading Why Men Love Bitches, by Sherry Argov and, while it was an entertaining read, I'm not sure I'd recommend it to anyone.
I appreciate what she's trying to do - namely, inspire women to have and defend their own lives as opposed to getting swept up into someone else's. I get that, and I think its awesome.
What I don't appreciate, though, is how much she seems to speak for all men. She makes wide, heterosexist, heteronormative generalizations about men and women, and it gets old fairly quickly.
She also adds a fair amount of tips and tricks that she says will affect your partner's behavior. While animals are predictable to a certain extent, doing something because you're banking on how the other person will react is never a good reason to do something...
After reading this it made me want to re-read The Man Diet (by Zoe Strimpel) because I feel like that book actually gets that you need to worry about yourself and not the other person.
Although Argov seems to be preaching self-reliance and what-not, she doesn't seem to realize it.
