Making friends, going places
I IM-ed today with a new friend that I made - the time difference was 8 hours, so it was a little odd. Entertaining, all the same. :-)
I'm getting sunburned. My nose and shoulders are pink now, and I anticipate that I'll get much darker very quickly. I also forgot my sunscreen, so unless I find some pronto I might end up with skin cancer in two weeks. (Don't underestimate the power of the southern African sun - it will hunt you down, lol.)
I miss fresh fruits and vegetables. Batswana cooking doesn't really include much fresh food of any kind, it seems. I never thought I'd say this, but I'm close to begging for a cucumber and a bowl of cherries, lol.
I'm developing my celebrity persona. Considering that, every time I step outside, I get stared at from meters away, I've begun to cultivate a distant, too-cool-for-you attitude. Its my way of coping with being perceived as an outsider. If they're going to treat me differently, then why shouldn't I be REALLY different? With people cat-calling and wolf-whistling on every corner, I just swing my hips a bit more and ignore them.
