It's a fun story to read too!

Does authorial intent still count? Because I admit I battled over whether to label See the Possible as slash or gen, since in my head it was very John/Rodney, just the kind of John/Rodney that didn't make it into any of the scenes as written. And in my head, all of the sections were connected and sequential, and Rodney probably didn't survive his wound in the cave, which is what led to John feeling kind of desperate and grim in the last part.

But I was overjoyed to see John showing up on crutches, and for him to bring Rodney beignets (and I had my own sense memory when you described those, and wished for a bakery close by to indulge my sudden craving) - that was brilliant in how it brought everything full circle after even a longish period of time. The writing made me very happy, and I need to go back and pore over your remix, because it deserves lots and lots of attention.

Reader reaction always fascinates me, because I remember another story where I intended the ending to convey a sense of hopelessness, as John tries to convince himself that he'll be able to do his job, and people left feedback indicating that they saw him as certain that he'd do a good job. It's so cool to see how different readers bring different interpretations to the same text.

I never wrote up a post for you the way I would have done for Yuletide, because I was open to having anything Remixed except my one safe story. It needn't even have been SGA; I was somewhat baffled when I looked at a list of everything I've written, to see how many one-offs I have in disparate fandoms. I was open to any sort of approach, too. And I cannot tell you how happy I was to see my name among the "original author" tags on the Saturday deadline, because I think assigned authors have reneged on my prompts in about half the story exchanges I've participated in. Pinch hitters are rock stars, but I'd started to wonder if I was doing something very wrong in creating prompts. You helped restore my faith that I'm not totally insane *g*

There hasn't yet been time for me to read the other SGA offerings in Remix, although I did go through some other familiar fandoms this weekend and found some gorgeous stories. And I know there are gems to be discovered in SGA too.

Five things stories are loads fun, especially writing to prompts. They can be very brief, a sentence per thing, or you can go crazy with length and AU options.

Of some of the other remixes I read, a few were based on drabbles and I was really impressed by the expansion of a concept that was first told in brief form.

If there's another Remix challenge next year, I'm definitely signing up. I had loads of fun writing and reading.

I had to swap in a completely different ending on mine, as I couldn't end it on a downward note, so I had to try and tie everything together. I am so glad that worked for you; it was one of the things I was really unsure about as that whole section was completely new cloth.

And okay, I remembered how last year you'd been left high and dry, which is why I was determined to get the story done for you as soon as I could, so it would be there for you when the archive opened. No one likes to be left waiting, no matter how good the pinch hit is. I think I turned mine in nearly a month in advance. *g*

I did go crazy with the challenges again this spring. I signed up for the stargate universe remix, so I'm going to try this all out again pretty darn soon. This was a lot of fun.
