2007 Bike Ride #9: The Flat Ride That Wasn't

Apr 28, 2007 20:52

Ride Length: 34 miles (more or less)
Elevation: 1600
Where: Capital Hill plus the first 17 miles of the STP route
Start Time: 10.30 am
How long: 5.0 hrs by watch, 3.34 hrs on-bike time. (about 10 mph, not including stops)
Heart Rate: 134 avg, 166 peak
Total Calories: 4450

Not a one of us was feeling our best today (sherrold has 2 days of radiation treatment left, B had a migraine, and I am working on either a fabulous cold or some allergies.) so we decided to do the first 20 miles of the STP, which is an incredibly flat route--all things considered. Only...to get out of Seattle, it's not so much with the flat. More like...rolling hills. And a few hairpin turns, too. We biked down from Capital Hill to the STP starting point, threaded our way through the university district, then an alternative street to the arboretum, and down lake Washington to Steward Park, Ranier S. and Renton. When we got to the confusing part of Renton with all of the traffic, we decided to just turn around and head back; we made really good time for us. The day was lovely, the view of the lake spectacular, and a great day for a ride. Unfortunately, by the end of it, I felt like I was coughing up a lung at times, but hopefully, that part of it won't last. (If it does last, then yeah, I will be seeing the doctor just to make sure it's nothing worse.) I'm afraid I'm a bit too tired and brain dead to do a good write up on this, but I loved being out on the road and riding by the water. It was a good day for a ride.
