Man, I've been lazy (and topic drift)

May 15, 2005 19:59

I haven't updated my web page in months. I got to a few pages last night and updated what I could remember off the top of my head. I even started a new section today for the hoarde of hermit crabs. I know other people don't always see the charm, but I like displaying my pets dammit. ;)

Hubby even complimented my design sense when he saw what I was doing (it's nothing special, but he always says he sucks at design). I didn't design the main site template, by the way; it's the same design as his, and he borrowed it from a friend. He was just referring to content placement.

In other news, my lazies seem to be taking a break today. I got the bathroom cleaned (except the floor), the vacuuming done (which means I assembled the new vac), and all the dishes caught up on today. And I even tried Osthein's recipe for dahl (sort of). It was good and went over well, other than I was way to chintzy with my spices because I'm not used to cooking with most of the curry type spices (I get my curry sauce from a jar) and wasn't sure how strong to go. I figured blandish was easier to deal with for a first try than putting in so much spice it was inedible. Mike ate it all (which is a Really Good Thing with new recipes), but next time, I'm going way spicier with it. I ended up throwing a lot of spices in once I'd got it all simmering together while I waited for my rice to finish, because it was blander than I wanted to eat. :)

I have always wanted to try cooking Indian style food, so I had the spices for it on hand, but I never have. I've actually never cooked lentils before either. So double whammy. :) I did fry some chicken breast in strips as well, as hubby is snobby about vegetarian meals. So we had dahl on a bed of rice with chicken breast strips on top. Pretty good stuff.

My computer genius cousin graduated from college this weekend. His brother, who lives way up north (sez the girl in Fargo), left his car in our garage this weekend and got in with his parents on their way through. They came back this evening, so it was nice to see them briefly (even though I can't tolerate that particular uncle in more than 10 minute doses). Auntie's Courier Service took some stuff back to my Mom, which is really good, because I am not good at remembering to mail things.

I wonder when I'll actually get home next (everyone keeps asking). Thanksgiving probably. :(

I love living away from my family (honestly, I do), but it was so much nicer in college when I got a long weekend every three months or so and could go home and see everyone. I almost made a whirlwind trip home last weekend, as I had 8 hours of overtime in from my Crystal Reports class, but we really need the money right now so I couldn't really justify it, even for Mother's Day.

I don't know how Mike stands it. I always say I'd be ok moving to England if we ever decided it, but I'm starting to wonder if that's really true or if it's just something I like to try to convince myself of. I mean, if Mike loves me enough to leave his family and not be able to visit for years at a time, I should be able to do the same, right? Right?

I would, actually, I think. But it does scare the hell out of me. I like England. But I'd *really* miss my mommy.

But they have ocean there. And at least one pink dog eared bus (it goes from Heathrow to Penzance). Any country with pink dog eared buses is cool as shit in my book. Aww, I just realized. I won't see the dog eared bus this trip, since we're flying in to Bristol. Sad! But not so sad that we don't have to take a coach from London to Torbay. Every cloud has a lining and... stuff. :)
