Please don't let my dad see this

HAY. Yesterday I was talking to this dude I know about human cloning so I figured I would ask the internets about it. And really, Ben, you are probably the only one who remembers livejournal exists, so tell me about your thinkings. Personally, I don't see a big deal with cloning humans. I mean that I don't think cloning in itself is unethical. What could possibly turn cloning into a clusterfuck is if they started using clones to farm organs, like in that move The Island, or if clones were used as slaves and/or treated as second-class citizens simply because they were clones. I think a lot of people think that cloning is this space-age Start Trek shit where you climb into a big machine and it spits out fully-grown copies of you. If humans were cloned, the clones would be humans just like everyone else, just with the same DNA as their "originals." They would be born as babies and grow normally, just like a regular human. I know you all know these things, but when I talk to people like my dad about this issue, I really don't think they grasp it. My dad says, "Yeah, but we all have different DNA. If you had a clone, she would have the exact same DNA as you. What about THAT?!" Yeah, well, if I had an identical twin, she would have virtually the exact same DNA as me, too. Let's outlaw twins for being some science-fictiony bullshit too.

I don't know what the practical uses for cloning could be, other than being futurey. I'm sure someone could tell me some. I'm not saying I'm all for cloning, because like I said, I can't think of a really good reason for it at the moment. But I just don't think it's a horrible thing in itself. I guess a lot of religious people think it's bad for several reasons they probably made up, but I think that if cloning was kept in responsible hands, it wouldn't be detrimental to society.

Ok, tell me some stuff about what you think.
