Worst Case Scenario: Gay Zombies
Well, I just took another test in Child Development and I think I owned it, because that's my shit. I'm still broken up with my Psych teacher over that cheap ass test from last week, but hopefully I'll make an A in my CD class to balance his ass out.
I got in a big argument with my dad over the weekend about "queers" adopting children, and generally just existing. I think if he could snap his fingers and make all the homos disappear instantaneously, he would totally do it without much contemplation. It's frustrating, but it's also fascinating to me. We all have our prejudices in one form or another, and I know I have some irrational ones, but his personal prejudices against homosexuals puzzles me. He's not an especially religious man, and he rarely cites biblical reasons for his beliefs. As I was talking to him, I tried to ask him why he thinks homosexuality is morally wrong. He said it is because homosexuality is unnatural. I asked what was unnatural about it, and he said it's wrong because two people of the same sex cannot make a baby together. That's when we got into the subject of gay adoption, which is apparently just about the worst possible thing that could ever happen, ever. At one point I jokingly asked him if he thought that in twenty years, there will be a generation of gay-adopted psychotic mutant sexual deviants overrunning the earth, and he answered "Yes" with a straighter face than I'd expected. The worst part is, when I say that there is really no reason to be afraid of gay people interacting with children and/or adopting them, and no reason to think that any child raised by homosexuals will definitely turn out to be gay, he simply does not believe me. I mean...he just does not BELIEVE science. At the risk of sounding like Nancy Grace, I think I probably know a little bit more about the scientific aspect of child development than he does -- but I guess he just thinks I am making things up. Don't get me wrong, I don't think he's a bad man, because he's not. I just don't understand quite where his extreme distaste for "queers" comes from, and why he is so adamant about it. You know, when I was 14 and going to church, I thought being gay was wrong, too. Then I realized that our planet is one of billions in our universe and frankly, nothing that happens on Earth really means two shits in the long run, so who cares if a dude wants to get funky with another dude? So the fuck what? Everyone just chill out and worry about yourself until you die.
