In case you're not familiar with Nessa or the musical she comes from, Wicked (and I suggest you check it out, because it's pretty much teh amazing), here's some infos. Spoilers for the musical and such, so yeah.

Nessarose is the younger sister of Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, and grows up in Act II to become the Wicked Witch of the East. She is wheelchair-bound for all of Act I and part of Act II, and Elphaba says about Nessa's birth:

Elphaba: ...You see, when my mother was carrying Nessa, my father was worried that the new baby might come out...
Elphaba and Galinda: Green.
Elphaba: So he made my mother chew milk flowers, day and night. But that made Nessa come too soon, with her little legs all tangled. And my mother never woke up.

In spite of, or perhaps because of her deformity, Nessa is favored by her father, the Governor of Munchkinland. He even gives her a pair of beautiful silver shoes when she and Elphaba go away to Shiz University, and states that the only reason Elphaba is even going there is to take care of Nessa. When they arrive, Shiz's headmistress, Madame Morrible, informs the girls that Nessa will be staying in her personal room, and that Elphaba will be roommates with Galinda. This is the start for the Elphaba-and-Galinda part of the plot, which is really pretty major. Later, during the song "Dancing Through Life," she is invited to the dance by a Munchkin named Boq, and falls in love with him, despite the fact that he is in love with Galinda. This lasts through to Act II, when some crazy crap goes down. (However, h_h Nessa is completely pre-"Dancing Through Life," so she has only a faint idea of who Boq is and would probably break if informed of her activities as the Wicked Witch of the East.)

But why did I choose Nessa? She's a fairly obscure character from both The Wizard of Oz and Wicked, after all. All we ever see of the Wicked Witch of the East is her lower legs and her feet, encased in the ruby/silver slippers, depending on your canon. (The musical has the shoes be both- they are silver until Elphaba enchants them, when they turn red. In the book, they are not described as either, so one can use one's imagination.) In the musical, she is the focus of a subplot that creates both the famous ruby slippers and the Tin Man, but still isn't in it very much.

The reason why I decided to play Nessa is because I just liked her. I love the contrast between the smiley!innocent!Nessa of Act I, and two-years-later!angry!Nessa of Act II, even though I ultimately decided to app as the former. Part of the reasoning behind that decision was that I had, at the time, never heard or seen Nessa's only Act II scene, "The Wicked Witch of the East," though I had read through it and seen photos. I was much more familiar with "Dancing Through Life" and Nessa's other Act I appearances, and so app'd as Shiz-type Nessa.

Good lord, this got long. Well, the basic thing is, Nessa is in a wheelchair. She's cute and adorable and I just love her to bits, and so I app'd her on h_h. If you read all this crap, I commend you. I think I have to go drive now.
