Moving Day

Nov 23, 2010 16:16

I knew I'd be moving in the next couple of weeks, but it was a little bit of a shock to find out this morning that the major thrust of the move will happen tomorrow. Mom and Dad are expecting my two nieces, their partners, my grand-nephew, and Buffy the well-behaved dog. We might also be expecting my brother, his wife, their two hellspawn*, and Ruffie the pony-sized, unspayed, untrained dog, but we're not sure because it's Tuesday and my brother doesn't like to spoil the surprise of his visits by confirming them. After thinking about air mattresses and sleeping arrangements, Mom and Dad decided I was taking up valuable real estate, so I am being evicted from my basement lair to make room for the company.

Under slightly different circumstances, I'd be thrilled to move into my new place. However, the house is still lacking a few amenities, like hot water, a stove, a refrigerator, or an indoor staircase to connect me to Crash's room. I suppose the fact I perceive it as the lack of a staircase means I am a pessimist. If I were a sunny-natured optimist I would think of it as a floor window, not a gaping hole through which someone (probably me) is going to fall.

You can tell the lack of fripperies such as hot water bothers me, or else I would have mentioned the lack of internet first. How will I survive without my precious, precious internet? Bring me my swooning couch!

Okay, thinking positive. My own place, complete with floor window! My own place! Appliances coming soon! MY OWN PLACE!

*Edited because I feel guilty for calling my nephews hellspawn. They are basically good kids but they are so high-energy in comparison with Crash that they make my head spin. Plus it's going to be raining and we will have all these kids and dogs cooped up inside, and I can guaran-damn-tee that all the noise and activity will end up with Crash having a spectacular meltdown, if I don't have one first.

Okay, thinking positive. OUR OWN PLACE will be a quiet refuge for us.

random bitchiness, thinking positive
