ignorance is bliss

[The icon is your warning: EMOTIONAL POST BELOW]

I think I've figured out why I have a hard time relating to people to whom a flourishing social life comes easily. Now, there are different types of social lives, I'm speaking of a specific sort. The kind where you have a large group of people that you hang out with that you're not very close with at all. Hanging out with a group of close friends-- totally different.

But, the observation I'm making here is that people who often occupy themselves in that shallow kind of interaction with large, regular groups and are totally comfortable doing so, have an easier time just not thinking about things. They can totally let themself be involved in the goings on and not let their deeper thought processes be stimulated.

I've really never had that sort of interaction, I'm only starting to very little bits at a time with people from work. It gives me a lot of insight into the lives of people that I've never been able to understand.

When you're left to your own devices to entertain yourself, you think about things. You try to figure shit out. You dive into your mind and get to know yourself because you have no one else to keep you company. I think this is the environment that creates the sort of person I get along with. Of course, I have to say for the benefit of not wasting time in offending people, that obviously this is not the only way a person can be introspective. There are of course people who are what they are despite whatever circumstances, I do not know everything and I do not think I understand human development 100%. This is just like, one specific algorithm that affects human interaction.

But, unfortunately for me, I have the tendency to affect upon people introspection. Which, is good for them, it will untilmately stimulate them for the better, but ultimately, they find it highly inconvenient to live that way long term. Which I can totally understand if it's something you're not used to. Doesn't help me much because then I'm stuck on this person who exists pretty much only as a function of my own manipulation.

Never really saw it as manipulation before, since it's motivating someone to be honest with themself and with me, but really that has to count as manipulation if it's not something they'd be naturally compelled to do.

I think the reason I have a hard time connecting with people, is because I've gone so very deeply into my own mind to know myself, I want to know other people on the same level. I want to make a connection with them, to that extent, otherwise I'm not satisfied at all. I've set the bar pretty fucking high for myself.

Ignorance is bliss, y'know. But life isn't really just about being happy. You can't be happy all the time, happiness doesn't have to be the ultimate goal. I'm a hedonist, yes, but happiness and following your desires are not always the same. Following your desires very often leads to unhappiness.
