RpgMaker2003 has PWNED me. xD
Well, I've been trying it out several times already, but this is the first time I actually feel like I've accomplished in making something... that you can actually call a game already.
The character system:
All characters have one base element and all their skills and spells are based on that one element. So, that means there is no actual 'spellcaster'-character, but all four characters do eventually learn all kinds of different spells and skills. However, the basic attributes and weapons affecting them do turn the characters into the somewhat fighter-thief-mage-healer styled group. After all:
Main character = Fire + Attack w. Swords/Axes = Fighter
Second Character = Wind + Agility w. Daggers = Thief
Third Character = Water + Mystic w. Spears = Mage
Fourth Character = Earth + Defense w. Clubs = Healer
(All characters can also wield bows.)
The different attributes between different weapons are:
Swords&Daggers = No speciality (used by the strongest classes)
Bows&Spears = Effective against flying creatures
Clubs&Axes = Effective against armoured creatures
World:
The world consists of small map sections that update every time you find a new mission or a clue that allows you to continue to the next 'hotspot'. However, the word 'update' is a bad one, since the map doesn't evolve or grow, but you go and lose the previous maps once it has been updated. This means you can't go back to places you've visited before once they are lost from the world map.
For example, in the beginning, you start on a map with only one town in the northernmost part of it. Once you've found your first mission, the map updates into a new map with the town in the southern corner and a new hotspot further north. Next map reveals a part east from that same town, allowing you to continue to the next town. But you lose sight of the previous hotspot. And the next time you lose your sight of the first town, but can only return to the second one...
Plot so far:
You start off with Gareth, the main hero. His background isn't revealed, but he is just aimlessly wandering the Grasslands when the game starts.
In the first village he meets up with another young fellow, Theo, whose little sister is missing.
After finding out where the lost girl is, they meet up with a (hot kinky bikini) girl, who surprisingly joins them. And since Gareth doesn't have any better plans, and Theo wants to start adventuring as well, they tag along with the girl and proceed into the next town.
Here they get to be in the middle of political drama. You have the church and the town guards, you have a witch that has been protecting the town before the church came, and you have a gorgon, the witch's arch enemy. How things turn out from here, even I don't know for sure...
Wicked dialogues:
After rescuing Lily, an old Granny says: So Lily was hiding in XXX. Now why didn't I think of that. I used to go up there to make out with boys. Scary, how young they start all that nowadays.
Some efficient guarding by a Guard of Rose Valley: Welcome to the Town of Rose Valley. If you misbehave I have to report you to the Capt... Oh, wait a minute. The Captain isn't here, so... ...um... just, please, don't misbehave, ok?
I love making little connections here and there!
A tomb stone: Here lies Johnny, the best companion you could ever have. P.S. I hope there are juicy bones wherever you are now.
A kid playing with a dog nearby: Here, Johnny junior! Here!
Does this sound kinky to you...? Guard of Rose Valley: I kinda miss the Captain telling us what to do.
Some more efficient guarding by a nun who's wobbling around in the Church basement filled with barrels: I must *hic* make shurr that... *hic* the comnummiom wine ish... *hic* ...ready for the *hic* shervishh...
A female guard, talking about the Captain: Tell him that I... I mean, we miss him.
...however, I'm intrigued to put a male guard say this exact sentence too! xD
