Most people who have gotten almost killed by an evil, crazy vampire would probably steer clear of anything that would cause that particular situation to happen ever again. One would think. I guess I'm just not most people - or at least that's what Mama tells me sometimes. Oh, no I didn't tell her anything about Darla trying to kill all of us that night in the library or that Angel saved us or that one of my new best friends is a superhero who goes out in the graveyards at night.. or that sometimes Faith lets Xander and I go with her. Telling either of my parents about what I do at school after school is actually over probably would land us moving miles and miles away from Sunnydale and that's implying that they didn't think I'd gone looney.
But it's not bad. I kind of like having the secret meetings in the library and us having to get quiet all of a sudden when somebody comes into the room. In Texas I had a group of good friends, but this is different. I belong somewhere and that's alright. The best part of it all, aside from getting close to both Xander and Faith, is that I get to experiment with some of Mr. Pryce's books and spells. He doesn't know it and would probably give me another talk about the 'dangers of magic', but I've done a few small things here and there. Nothing big, but I did pull off a simple locator spell. Afterwards when Mama and Daddy came home they asked why there was a black spot on the carpet, but I just told them that the lights had gone out for about an hour and the match I'd used to light a candle had fallen on the floor which started a very small fire that I immediately put out with my foot.
It's hard to think of an excuse on the spot like that.
Some nights we head over to the Bronze where Faith tries and succeeds to get me away from our table and my coke for at least fifteen minutes. It's fun though.. the dancing. Never really was one for doing much of it at least in public anyway, but with Faith and Xander it's not bad. Angel shows up sometimes. At first I was nervous around him and I probably still am a little, but Faith seems to like him a lot.. okay, more than a lot. Besides, he did keep Darla from letting her teeth get too close to my neck. So I guess that makes him alright in my book. When someone saves your life you usually don't think they're evil just because they're a vampire. The vampire thing still didn't make complete sense to me, but as long as I knew he wasn't staring at my neck then I wasn't going to ask questions. Or at least a lot of them.
Things have pretty much gotten into a routine for the most part. Going to school, either researching something in the library or me sitting in the back reading up on some of Mr. Pryce's books he probably would rather me not be reading. Sometimes it's just me and Xander in the library while Mr. Pryce and Miss Calendar are off somewhere and Faith is out patrolling. One thing I can say is that Xander sure likes to talk about Cordelia. I listen to him and all even though I might not understand exactly why he talks about her so much. I'm pretty sure Faith feels the same way about Cordelia that I do because whenever Xander starts to talk about her while she's in the room she'll normally roll her eyes and walk over to where Mr. Pryce keeps all the weapons.
It might be dangerous or just downright weird on the outside, but I'm glad I'm where I am now. Being friends with Faith and Xander, going to school and not being bored with it, working on the little amount of magic ability that I do have, and just hanging out whether it be at the Bronze or in the library after school or even in a graveyard. No, it's not bad at all.
