Okay...whew...play time over boys and girls.
Well, it was an interesting weekend. I went and saw SPIDERMAN friday night. YES I AM INSANE! I had tix for the 7 pm show and got to the theatre at 5:20. Was the only one in line only for about 5 minutes until some geekoid came and did his heavy breathing exercises next to me. I sat down and started reading my Stephen King/Peter Straub book DARK HOUSE...so far, it's all been Peter Straub writing in a movie direction module. Oy.
So about 6:15 the line is around the corner and down the hall. I'm happy I'm a geekette with enough sense to be there TOO early for words. I am first into the theatre (stadium seating)and lay my coat, book and purse across the other seats reserved for my friends. Amazing how many people looked at the seats, but tried to sit down anyway. I'm like "HELLO! Those are reserved!" D'oh! One bimbette looks at me confused. I asked her "When you picked up my coat, did it NOT occur to you someone might OWN IT???" yeesh.
So, the theatre was PACKED!!! God, what chaos!
I enjoyed the movie, even tho I thought the special effects were "cartoony" and not very good. There's a scene where Peter discovers he can leap from rooftop to rooftop and the effect is distracting. The web-swing scenes through the city are almost over animated to the point you can tell it's not a stunt but graphic animation. The storyline sappy and the violence just enough to keep it PG-13. Having an 8-year-old next to me with his hands over his eyes during the Green Goblin scenes was too funny. Ever watch a kid watch a scary movie??? Peeking between the fingers? hehehe
Anyway...If you go with the idea that this movie fits within the parameters of live-action cartoon, you'll be okay. If you go expecting STARWARS special effects...you'll walk away disappointed.
I've loved SPIDERMAN since I was 8 and this movie was fun. Not spectacular, but fun! I recommend it for a summer flick, will probably get it on DVD and will go see it again, but it's just not going to make it into my ALL TIME FAVE status.
Now, next is STAR WARS...this one definately seems to have an edge and I HOPE Jar-Jar is severely diluted in this episode.
Adios, chicos.
