Summary: it’s hard to say goodbye

Word count: 726
About the story: This was written a long time ago and it was sort of a love letter to a girl living across the world.

You can feel her warm breath on your skin. It's soothing and taunting at the same time. Just to know she's here is making your blood boil, and it's not just passion but more of a sheer excitement. You got to see her; you got to see her smile at you. Her eyes were sparkling and she looked like a child, born again and so fresh; so soft in your embrace. It's everything about her that makes you feel special. The way she talks, the way her laughter echoes - bounces against the walls in the big room, the way her eyes blink - slowly, hiding her eyes from the world for a second - the way her fingers brush against your skin. The way she leaves you breathless. You close your eyes and inhale deeply; you smile. She's all mine.
You could watch her sleep forever. Long eyelashes touching her cheeks gently, the rising and falling of her chest and the way she folds her palms under her head on the pillow makes her look like an angel. Her soft breathing and an occasional sigh in her sleep seem like music to you. You want to stay awake all night; you want to watch her dream, to stay with her forever.
The world has other plans for you and it makes your heart ache when you think about it. She knows how this works; you’ve already talked about it. It doesn’t make it any easier though. Thousands of miles apart, hundreds of hours away from each other, but you promised, and she knows you’ll come back to her.
You try to think back a little and remember if it was always like this or is saying goodbye getting harder every time you do it. You should get used to it by now, you both should especially after you’ve been apart for so long unable to touch each other, see one another’s eyes or hear each other’s voices. And then you realize that’s exactly why it is so hard this time. Going away only after you finally confessed to each other how you felt… You just want to close your eyes and cry.
Then she stirs in her sleep and slowly opens her eyes. In the dark you can see them sparkling for a second before she closes them back. Her voice is a soft whisper when she speaks as her hands pull you in closer - Is it time? - and you nod your head without saying anything afraid that if you do leave now, you’ll lose her forever.
I just want to remember you like this are her last words before you pick up your suitcase and stand in place still contemplating your departure. Her fingers run down your cheek and you close your eyes with a little smile curving your lips because it feels so incredibly good to have her touch you like this. Your feet don’t move, your legs are like led, but you try - you struggle actually - to be the strong one, just like you always were when it was the time to leave.
She knows how you feel because she feels the same way and I’ll wait for you, don’t worry are just the words you needed to hear.
The cab pulls up and the driver honks, you look in his direction and sigh. She touches your hand - the one holding the suitcase - and then leans into you gently as you wrap your free arm around her. You’re afraid to look her in the eyes when you part but she makes you look anyway when she kisses your lips softly and smiles. I’ll see you later, her fingers bush over your shoulder and you nod wishing that it doesn’t have to be later, you wish she can come along.
The driver puts your suitcase in the trunk as you sit in the back seat and roll the window down; she stands in the doorway leaning against one side with her shoulder, wrapping the robe around her, tight. The car pulls out, gets on the road, and you turn over on the back seat like a child does and look at her getting smaller and smaller as the car drives on. Even when she gets out of sight, you don’t stop waving.

The end.
