Where once was love, now darkness falls
Where once was love, love is no more.
"She isn't dead?"
"Your Highness, I couldn't," his reply was nervous, he knew what sort of rage she was capable of.
"You couldn't? You are soldier - your job is to obey my orders!"
"Yes, I know that Your Highness, but she was so innocent - I just..."
"You bleeding heart, Fool! Don't you understand what she has taken from me? She has openly defied me, and I would have tolerated that, but she stole from me! And not just any gem! I will not have it!"
"Your Highness, would you forgive your own flesh and blood if she had done the same?"
With a raging curse she hurled the fragile orb she had been levitating directly at her soldier's heart. Too late, she realized what she'd done. She ran to him, just before he fell, the blood crimson against his uniform. "No, don't....I'm sorry! Weiss...."
"It ... won't work, Es... you know it won't work." He never used her name, except when they were in her private chambers.
"But..." she began to cry. "I can try - you can do it - please, fight...you're a fighter, you're my fighter...."
"I....I... can't," his tanned skin grew pallid as the lifeblood drained out of him, into the princess' hands - onto the floor.
"You have to, you're the only one that understands that..." She couldn't get out the words she wanted. There was not enough time. There was never enough time.
"Your father understands."
"Yes, but... It's not the same. You know it's not the same." He's not you.
"I'm dying...Es. It will .... be ... alright. Don't... cry."
"But it is my fault!"
"Well yes, maybe you should learn not to use your ... rage so quickly." He smiled, but it was a weak one.
"Why couldn't you just have killed her? This wouldn't have happened...I am not going to live without you, I know how to save you but you might not like it." She knew a spell, she could save his essence. If she had to.
"No, don't ... death is just a part of moving on, Es..."
"What once was living, reflection find, hunter, hunted mine!"
"Esmeralda! DON'T!" Instead of words, was a whimper of what sounded like a whipped puppy. And there was no evidence of the crime she had done. Only two broken hearts, permanently separated.
And no happy ending for either.
Make the clock reverse, bring back what once was mine.
What once was mine.
