So i wasn't planning on going home this weekend, but i did anyway. I found out friday that i didn't have work saturday (apparantly beth took me off saturdays but then never bothered to tell me). Then Lauren begged me to come home and go to see Aida at UHS w/her. So i did. Lauren came over around 4 on saturday (today, as i haven't gone to bed yet) and she helped me set up shots for my photography assignment, and then we played w/play doh. =D Then we went to the play. Damn Rago is good. Aida is my favorite broadway play, so I was prepared to be severly let down. But i was wrong. very wrong. Should have known tho, as rago's musicals are always good. I think i liked the UHS PAC version better, actually. i think it's the acting...the students were really enthusiastic and energetic, whereas the broadway actors, while very good, are very...profesional and serious about it, which kinda puts a damper on things. and of course it helps that Marissa Rago is absolutely amazing. her voice is incredible. She was perfect for Amneris. And she gave Amneris more kick then the acrtress I saw on broadway. Rago's sets were better too, if i'm remembering correctly. The girl that played Aida was so little...but she could sing fantastically. I didn't expect such a big voice from her, lol. I'm currently listening to the broadway soundtrack, and i think i liked the student aida better then the professional aida. the one from broaday sounds a lil...idk...too old? not that....just...wrong a lil. uhs radames' voice was a lil smoother then broadway's radames. broadway guy was more distressed and gravely sounding. but either worked well. And Tim as Zoser, as well as the two numbers featuring him were a lot better then on broadway. I remember thinking that the guy playing Zoser on broadway sucked, and that "Another Pyramid" and "Like Father Like Son" were stupid, but they were a lot better in the UHS version. Still not my fav parts, but u can't love the whole thing equally, can u? and...well, ok i'm not gonna go thru every character and bit of the play. to put it shortly: the UHS PAC production was just as good as broadway, if not better in some ways. to me, anyway. lol i think this was one of Rago's better plays in recent years. I wanna see it again really badly. I wish Aida wasn't off broadway. i always wanted to see it again. and poor mikey has never seen it....=/ too bad he couldn't come today. *sigh* oh well. either way, my obsession w/Aida, and musicals in general, is back. i always wanted to be involved in the plays in high school, but was too chicken. and now...well...college plays just suck compared to Rago's extravagent productions. so even tho i've got the guts to try to get involved now....i find that i think it's pointless. *shrugs* eh. one of the jobs i always wanted when i "grew up" was to be a set designer for broadway, but i think that would require concentrating in drawing and painting, not art history...and i dun wanna do that, cuz i hate painting thanks to joe. well if i get into the Craft of the Costume class i wanna take next semester i'll be involved in the plays anyway. maybe it'll get me somewhere. I should talk to Porta about doing set design...as that's what she does for a living. anywayz... poor lauren was almost wishing she hadn't come cuz now she really misses playing pit...or playing flute at all, for that matter. the plays are one of the few things we both miss about uhs. but there isn't much else.
and i have church tomorrow, then need to get back to ramapo quickly so i can do darkroom work. so it's bedtime for carol.
