I don’t know if it can really be called chance. I mean, Fiyero did come to Shiz where I was a student, and he was a student, so we were sort of bound to meet. But there was that day…
After Dr. Dillamond was killed. Our new professor brought a poor lion cub into the room. I forget what he was going to do to it. Something about teaching it to fear. But he didn’t have to teach it anything. The poor thing was already trembling in fright for having been torn from his mother. I just did what any normal person would have done. Whatever I could to free it.
Much to my surprise, I felt someone next to me as I struggled to free the cub. It was Fiyero. He helped me get the cage out of the classroom, and we took it into the woods to free it. Our hands met and we looked at each other.
He tried to say he was all about the shallow, but I knew differently. He wouldn’t care what people thought if he really, truly was that shallow. There was a quiet moment, then he took off.
To Galinda as she still went by at that time. Of course. She was perfect…and why shouldn’t he have perfect.
But still…at that chance moment… Possibilities sparked in the air.
