recipe of fail
Well Dattebayo subs has recently released it's HQ version of the Bleach movie, Memories of Nobody. The DVD is also set for release soon. This has prompted a fair amount of renewed interest in the movie and a fair amount of reviewing.
I admit I saw talk of it in forums and decided that I would give it a spin. Like most, anime movies spun-off on-going series aren't my deal. They suck. This movie...this movie sucked hard.
So the premise, I'd call it a plot, but let's not get ahead of ourselves, starts out with a big, and mighty dangerous portal, suddenly forming between Earth Realm and Soul Society. At the same time our heroes Ichigo and Rukia are being swarmed by fluffy marshmellow type beings with red masks where their faces should be, being powerless shinigami with pointy swords, they r saved by a feisty and bouncy shinigami who's all windy with autumn leaves and apparently spastic.
After saving out beholden heroes who r temporarily OOC due to someone's case of writer's block we r formally introduced to Senna. *yayz* Sadly Rukia decides to dash off to SS to get the low down, ordering Ichigo to follow Senna around and find out what she knows or possibly what drugs she's on , 'cause yeah, she's a bit flaky; this one.
And thus begins an hour or so of Ichigo and Senna bonding, which is less bonding and more Senna being weird and being flaky, and Ichigo continually losing track of her and even taking a break to go off on an intel meeting with the 10th Division @ Urahara's not-so-secret, secret base. There we get spoon fed some story of doom which possibly breaks several canon rules and laws of metaphysics - yet it serves a higher purpose! We learn, thru illustrations, that its entirely possible that ALL shinigami possess mad pre-skool level drawing skills.
Ichigo meets up with Senna again, but she's gets attacked by some guerilla-fighter rejects, being OOC he takes her home to spend the night. This is obviously not the same Ichigo who hid a girl in his closet for 2 months, don't let the orange hair fool u.
Stuff happens, then like Ichigo and Senna get jacked by a group of SS guys; that have, for no reason whatsoever decided that talking things over civilly is gay and they prefer to use violence. Ichigo being OOC, combats their violence by talking like he's suddenly discovered the joys of interior decorating.
They get bombed by the mercenaries who have at some point when I was kinda falling asleep/bored and kinda feeling nauseated, been explain as a group of exiled shinigami from a noble house and who now seek apocalyptic revenge on SS and need something called a Memory Rosary to do it. At some point its also been revealed that the fluffy Miyazaki rip-offs, were actually souls that have been stripped of their memories and got lost on the way to reincarnation (called Blanks). At some point someone decided that coming up with a story would be like hard, so they used a random plot generator. As such, Senna turns out to be the much wanted Memory thingy.
The bad guys get Senna, it's not worth mentioning that the head baddie looks like a rejected character design from the Bounto arc (Kariya) and the Bleach: Sealed Sword Frenzy OAV. Not-Ichigo emo'z about what a failed protector he is and drags Rukia with him in his search for "the chick he met yesterday and whose full name he doesn't know".
There's a portal and like a place between Earth Realm and SS and everyone was kung-fu fighting and Hitsugaya looked rad and I fangirled and Byakuya-sama was there! I totally love Senbozakura, it's the awesome. He came to save Rukia and I squealed like it was xmas. Soi Fong was there looking wicked cool and this all lasted like only 30 minutes.
Then OOC Ichigo and Senna share some stimulating memories of when he followed her the day before, and SS fired it's giant kidou cannon which looked very phallic, and this apparently made the other world crumble, only it was "too late" and to save the Earth Realm and SS cause the bitches were set to collide (cause metaphysically they existed like planets and not like the hour-glass metaphor that was used before).
So Senna being brave and wanting this fun world to go on 'cause she woke up on a river-bank 3 days ago 'yo, and life is about the experiences - and wanting Ichigo to live decided to sacrifice herself, by hijacking the powers of the Blanks, 'cause I guess reincarnation is overrated anyway (and isn't this what Aizen is planning and what everyone think is OMG-wrong?)
It was very hard on OOC Ichigo and Senna, it was all very Titanic and "my heart will go on", and the worlds were saved and then Ichigo gave her a piggy-back ride to "her family grave" and like lied to her cause she was feeling emo about not being real, kinda the reverse of me being emo that this was real. She took her sweet time fading away, and Rukia showed up to make sure that emo-Ichigo didn't kill himself or something.
Seriously, for the next movie I would like to suggest that the studio just have a Mortal Kombat scenario and invite all the elite shinigami to an island to kick-ass for world peace. And keep the fucking Mary Sues the hell outta' it, 'cause damn if Senna didn't suck. Insanely, there's an Ichi X Senna FC, which makes my brain hurt. It's populated by IchiOri's which I guess is fine since Rukia gets shipped with everyone. Apparently I must be getting bitter in my old age 'cause people wish Senna "was canon" and think she and "Ichigo" make a cute couple. I was bitter when I was 5
I wish this movie had never been made. *shrugs* Though there was one good point in this, and that was Rukia messing with Ichigo for leaving his body all over the place and like telling him it's gonna get carted off by a hearse - lulz. For the most part the music sucked too, a lot of weird opera that had no emotional significance. There was a cool instrumental piece that has been adopted into the canon anime for Rukia's battle music *sweet* and the bitchin' movie theme done by Aqua Timez called "Sen no Yoru wo Koete" - which is an awesome IchiRuki song ~ so pretty and moving.
Also if they're gonna make a movie that has no canon impact may I request an IchiRuki movie, plz?
