Fell asleep in the study with an open window.
Country under a "severe weather warning". Sister island (Tobago) under a "Tropical Storm" warning. If this seems weird, that's cause little things like on a clear day u can see Tobago as clearly as u can Venezuela, depending which shore ur looking out from. Also the weather over my head has been fine, barely English ^^
Our island position in the Caribbean chain is of such luck that we get drafts of cold air from the the South American Temperate zone, and warm Atlantic North East Trade winds. What happens when these two meet is called the I.T.C.Z. Which is never far from us, this also means that storms that don't hurry and hit us during the early season when the weather of our temperate neighbours is really warm, is that they lose energy. They weaken. They crawl back out to sea where they become vengeful, angry beasts and ravage others. Or they swing upward - growing weaker and hitting other islands, and go into the Gulf of Mexico. And here u can feel a cold chill, cause then they go on to ravage Florida, Carolina and American cities like New Orleans, that have long forgotten the instinctual protective measures.
Total lives lost during the Hurricane season for ALL Caribbean islands compared to lives lost for the U.S.A., is a matter of statistical relevance if u like to think about environmental protection for coastlines and wetlands , and about disaster management.
Yesterday was my country's Independence Day, from British Colonial Rule. It was also my Grandmother's b'day. My Grandmother is also the family matriarch, and so every year on her b'day we religiously gather at her house, for food and the usual family stuff.
I've only missed it a few times, anti-social little git that I am, and this year was one of those times.
Totally not my fault, I expected to finish Stephen King's "The Stand" - But it's an incredible read and will finish it today. Hence why I also fell asleep with the lights on and the bright, somewhat rained-out morning sun. People regard my antisocial behaviour with resigned indulgence. I could be dragged there, but would lock self in quite corner, and it would hardly seem worth the effort.
The Stand is incredible, it's the extended version. And it's a post Apocalyptic tale of concentrated madness. Oddly had this sitting in my room from a Used Bookstore Exploratory Search Mission. I thought I read this in High School, but I have almost perfect recall for books read, and this was just lost in my collection of King's stuff. I'd put in second only to his "The Dark Tower" series, which is my fav. I think King is one of my favourite writers for very simple reasons. He always draws such deep characters, with nuance thinking, history, and purpose. It seems to be so much his writing style like fond, intricate weaving of Americana. U know the places he talks about, the small towns with secrets. U know the people, the ne'er-do-wells who r absolutely ordinary, until that one day.
The only book of his that scared me - and still does was "Pet Cemetery" - my sister had borrowed the movie once (video club) and terrified after seeing it, I hid it under the kitchen sink. It stayed there for a long damn time, I'm guessin', dunno what happened to it. Didn't tell them where it was either. Children are crazy neurotics to begin with. Bat-shit crazy, was just as norm now, as it was then XD
The book has already pulled my brain from it's emo fog, and have changed playlist to happier J-rock. Yes, even with translations, *wink* *wink*
Back to reading!!
Also, despite being mildly evil, I'm a hero girl. Frodo is my forever fav from LOTR, and Roland from The Dar Tower, it'll forever be this way. So I'm on the good side. *shrugs* Even if Utah makes my organs start attemptive suicide.
