A/N: I’m sorry that these are so few and far between (not to mention, a little lame at the moment). I’ve got a couple more I’m hoping to finish up before we all get swept away by fresh inspiration next week. Plot holes be damned, she’s coming back kids!
If You Go Down To the Woods Today
Matt Reardon is hiking through the woods, trying to clear his head, when he stumbles upon a makeshift tent.
A shaking, moaning, makeshift tent.
The Boy Scout in him jumps into action and he runs towards it calling out,
“Hello! Do you need help?”
The tent goes perfectly still, and he thinks he hears a muffled laugh, before a woman’s voice replies,
“No, we’re fine thanks.”
Another muffled snigger, followed by whispered indignation, “Olivia shut-up!”
“Olivia?” he asks. “Is that you?”
The tent zipper comes down and out pop two heads - a grinning Olivia Spencer looking flushed, and a decidedly sheepish Natalia Rivera.
His jaw drops.
“Matt!” Olivia begins, conversationally, as though she isn’t holding a blanket up across her naked chest. “Out hiking again, I take it?”
Natalia can barely look at him.
“Uh... yeah,” he manages to find his voice, before blurting, “What the hell are you two doing out here?”
“Oh God,” Natalia covers her face with her hands.
Olivia frowns.
“Seriously? Do I have to draw you a diagram?”
“Would you?” he teases.
Olivia throws a pinecone at him.
Laughing, he clarifies. “What I meant was: why are you out here in a tent?
“Oh,” Natalia perks up. “This is my home.”
“Right.” Olivia adds, snarkily. “We can’t have her living at the Beacon with me, or else everyone will say we’re co-dependant and that’s the only reason we love each other.”
“That’s right,” Natalia continues in earnest. “This way we can prove to everyone that we choose to be with each other.” She ignores Olivia’s dramatic eye-rolling, while trying to discreetly pull the twigs from her hair.
Matt can feel the early signs of a headache coming on. He shakes his head.
“What happened to the farmhouse?”
“Oh,” Natalia sighs. “It was repossessed.”
“You’re kidding?” Matt is genuinely sorry.
“I wish I was.”
“How'd it happen?”
“Well,” Natalia begins. “Between Olivia moving out because of my non-wedding to Frank...”
“... and then Natalia quitting her job at The Beacon, to prove a point,” Olivia continues.
“Plus, Rafe finding out about us and moving out...”
“... and Natalia discovering that she’s pregnant and running away to the nuns...”
“... and Olivia hitting the bottle and getting arrested...”
“... we kind of forgot about making the repayments.”
***
On his way back into town, Matt is spotted by Frank Cooper, who appears to be sitting in the park, doing nothing.
“Hey Matt. How was the hike?”
Matt takes a seat next to his friend.
“There’s nothing like a hike in the woods to clear your head.”
“That good, huh?”
“You know Frank, I was beginning to think that my life was kinda boring. But you know what? Boring is good.”
“It is?”
“Absolutely.” He pats Frank on the back. “Enjoy it while it lasts.”
