Knowing what could have been may not be as important as knowing what did, however, there may be something to learn from possibilities.

For example, knowing what the price was, it tells me that you had at least one thing important to you here (as you could not know if I or anyone else would be pulled here.) It also tells me that someone has the power to really mess with your head, if they wanted to.

From her, it's almost a prediction. If the cost is problems when someone arrives, someone was going to arrive. Ignoring what warnings one can take from her would be as stupid as ignoring warnings from you.
