Song Translation

候鳥 is another pretty song by S.H.E. that I translated a few months ago with my cousin. The title, pronounced "hou niao" translates directly to "migratory bird", but that sounds too scientific so I translated it as "A Bird That Flies South".

Listen to Me

A Bird That Flies South
Sung By: S.H.E.
CD: Encore
Lyrics Translated By: ASL&JRW

*I throw empty bottles of wishes[1]
Into the nearing mouth of the ocean,
And watch as the sea and the sky become like one.
Facing the desert, I feel discontent about you.

I see a carpet of the white flowers of river reeds.
Once, I loved those fleeting features of yours.
It’s winter in the south...

But, my heart cannot forget the past.
How your face hungered for love.
Your “forever” is but one season,
Disappearing with the floods,
Leaving only postcards in my memories.*

**Your love vanishes far from my view,
Like a bird who flies south.
And like water in a marsh,
Sadness overwhelms me.

Your love passes as the changing seasons,
Like a bird who flies south.
With tears in my eyes,
I face the north.**

[Instrumental]

[*Repeat*]

[**Chorus**]

[Short Instrumental]

Your love vanishes far from my view,
Like a bird who flies south.
I stand by the river facing the chaparral,
Missing you.

Your love passes as the changing seasons,
Like a bird who flies south.
You leave the warmth with ‘Goodbye’,
And fly towards the north.

[1] Like a wish made on a falling star, a wish made into an empty bottle is thought to granted.
