Darn You, Not-Free-Cruise-Internet!

Apr 21, 2006 20:38

Who knew that a cruise would charge $.50 for a minute of internet onboard? Isn't that the most ridiculous thing you have ever heard? I was going to put in an entry for every day of my lovely vacation, but it looks like I'll just have to put everything in a nutshell.

Day 1: April 16
Went to Santa Barbara/LA and basically hung out around town, eating ice cream and visiting the UC campuses, which was mandatory but not all that fun. Went out to eat for Easter Dinner--yum.

Day 2: April 17
Boarded my ship, the Monarch of the Seas today from San Pedro near 3:00 PM and was immediately surrounded by loads of food. French fries, grilled stuff, delicious pasta, seafood paella, etc., not counting the desserts... God, that chocolate mousse cake was TO DIEEE FOR.

Day 3: April 18
Stopped at the port of San Diego, which, though I've visited about a trillion times, is still just as much fun (and the Mexican food just as delicious!). Had a lovely cruise of the city and La Jolla and Old Town, and bought myself loads of trinkets which I will never use and most likely give away come Christmas time. Ate a lot and had superb linguini with wild mushrooms and truffle sauce for dinner... A floating souffle for dessert.

Day 4: April 19
Stopped at the port of Catalina Island, which, though technically still in LA county, seems like a completely different entity. Went snorkling and struggled immensely with the wet suit, which, though drier and therefore easier to get on than most of my other cruisers', still took fifteen minutes. Saw many, many fish and lobsters and sea urchins and sea cucumbers (had most scary urge to eat it) and so on and so forth. Ate ice cream for lunch and bought more earings and necklaces.

Day 5: April 20
Finally stopped at Ensanada, Baja Mexico, which reminded me a lot of the slums of Shanghai, actually. Tour guide took us to La Bufadora, this water spout thing. I had more fun attempting to bargin in Spanish for more stuff to buy. Then went to downtown Ensanada and ate about a trillion fish tacos, which are probably the most delicious fried fish I've ever had. Then Mahi Mahi tempura for dinner and chocolate brownie madness for dessert. Watched waiters dance with flaming cakes on their heads and forced daddy to tip them extra.

Day 6: April 21
Drove back home to North CA and unpacked, then immediately stared updating lovely LJ. Yay! Promise to post pictures soon!

rl, vacation
