Tipesh! Stupid!

There was a big fat fog in the morning when we were driving to school. Well, at least it slowed people down a bit.

Anyways, at school, I volunteered to take part in this global 'Make Poverty History' campaign. So my classmate, Anish, who's managing the whole UAE division of this campaign gave me a load of flyers and posters to put up in my neighborhood. Two other guys were supposed to help me with it, but one refused to and the other's phone number was 'unreachable', whatever that means.

Both, the flyers and the posters said, "Every 5 seconds, a child dies of hunger... Walk against Poverty at Dubai Media City on December 9th. Registration open at 09:30 am and walk starts at 10:00 am."
It's an official thing, not just some hoax.

So I went around my own neigborhood of 16 streets. I was taping the small flyers on trees, poles and walls. The larger posters went in special places, like near the two swimming pools and on places where a lot of people would notice. I was almost done, and was just hobbling down to the entrance of the neighborhood, i.e. the little place where the two security guards on duty sit. I wanted to put one up there because everyone who entered the neigborhood would see it. Idiot guards wouldn't let me put one up there. I did, though, and they called the Security Control Room or someplace like that, who told me to call some Emaar Property Department and get written permission from them to put up flyers in the neighborhood. I told them I already had permission from Emaar personnel [Emaar is the huge-ass real estate company that sold all these bajillions of homes to residents and other real-estate dealers], but it was only verbal. The guy had clearly told me, "Go ahead, it's for a good cause."
But some people just don't understand. I tried arguing with him, lying to him, yelling at him - just didn't slap him silly - but the guard wouldn't listen. What pushed me over the edge was that this smartass guard told me that he'd remove all the posters and flyers that I'd put up around the neighborhood. Fruck! It's his job, I agree, but he could easily contact me if there's a problem, which I really doubt there will be because none of the residents have a problem with it. The idiot wouldn't listen. He told me he was just doing his job, which I agreed to and which I respect, and he was just implementing the rules set by Emaar, which is to say that one can't put up posters or flyers on the neighborhood's walls without written permission.

Conclusion: Emaar is a rosh zayin, a dickhead.

In other news, Sister Daniela finally gave me community service work to do. I'm tutoring a 9th grade boy after school on Mondays and Tuesdays in Chemistry. Yay! It'll cause some transport problems, but at least I have something to do.

In yet other news, I find it really, really cool that my friend Derrick (sp?) is really cool about my sexuality. He was asking me today whether I've dated boys and stuff like that. You know what it's like to find an oasis among tons and tons of hot, desert sand that burns your feet? That describes, somewhat accurately, what I feel about Derrick. I'm really grateful.
