I had my first driving lesson today. The sun was high in the sky when my instructor, Tony knocked on my door at about 12.40 PM and we set off. He drove us to some place across the river in Gateshead and pulled over. Because I'm learning to drive a manual car, he taught me about the three pedals near the feet - the accelerator (gas pedal), the brakes and the clutch. Then he told me about the gears. Then he skimmed over maneuvers for pulling away from the curb and pulling over. After what seemed like ages, I finally got behind the wheel.
And the next minute, I stalled the car because I let go of the clutch too quickly.
Smooth move.

We drove up and down a single stretch of road. I was well nervous.. he had to remind me again and again to change gears and to brake/press the clutch when I pull over. I couldn't concentrate on steering AND changing gears so I kept moving off track when I shifted my attention to changing gears. I'm gonna need loads of practice for that.

I stalled the car once more during the lesson. Tony taught me how to steer and told me to practice with a dinner plate.

Almost can't wait for my next lesson.
