Watery end

Today was the unofficial last day of the Special Families Support group's summer camp [more appropriately called a summer program]. The official last day was on Friday when we had a party at the Dubai Center for Special Needs. That's when I said goodbye to most of the volunteers I had made friends with.. Kapil, Nishant, Anusha and Pooja whom I took to calling Poojes and Cream after the expression 'peaches and cream'. The party itself was really great. Some professional drummers had been invited and they brought those drums made of hide [I think]. We played a whole song on it, it was so much fun. After that, we danced to some music played by a real chump of a DJ who kept interrupting the songs to say stupid things like 'I wanna see everyone on the floor' and 'Put your hands in the air!' I had a good mind to tell him where to put his what.
Towards the end, when I was pouring drinks or people, my name was called out and I got a certificate. It has a really nice quote by Khalil Gibran on it:
You give but little when you give your possessions... it is when you give of yourself that you truly give.

Following the quote was a small note the end of which said, "Remember, to the world you might be one person, but to one person you might be the world."
Moving words.

Today was the unofficial last day: we went to Wild Wadi. It was different this time around. I had to handle special needs children and didn't have enough time to gawk at half-naked guys. Plus, this time, we didn't slide down the Jumeira Sceira slide 'cause we didn't have time.
It all ended well. I had salt and vinegar chips so I was happy. I said my goodbyes to my friends Shalaka, Rishika, Bhavi, Tejas and Wynette. Oh Wynette! And it was the last time I'd see the children for another year I guess. I'll miss their own, unique quirky little habits and their way of making me laugh. It's really an experience to work with, play with, look after and/or manage special needs children and to be a part of their world.

friends, sfs, special needs, wild wadi
