All a farce?

I just watched a really good, convincing video on Google against the whole hoax of humans causing global warming. It's a documentary, actually, called 'The Great Global Warming SwindleFrom the ninth grade to the eleventh grade, we had a subject for our O-level exams called 'Environmental Management'. Throughout the course, we were soaked with the ( Read more... )

There is probably some truth to both sides of the debate Punkin. I think the temperature is rising because of that hottie Arjun you sleep next to each night. =)~

Right, I don't think either side is completely right. Unfortunately, not a lot of people think like you and me.

Hey, and what about the hottie sleeping next to Arjun?!

That's true...two hotties next to each other raises the temperature exponentially. ;)

The debate over whether global warming exists or not is a very long one, with intelligent people on both sides of the debate. Me- I don't know, but I'd rather err on the side of conservation.

An alternate theory (which is rooted in fact) says that solar radiation is penetrating the earth at higher rates because the earth's magnetic field is preparing to change polarities... it does that every few thousand years.

The long and the short of climate science comes down to this: humans affect climate. How much or how little is up for debate. Climate science is a new science that must be allowed to evolve. Maybe after a while we'll really know what's going on.

Yup, that I can agree with - humans definitely affect climate. And sooner or later, this meddling is going to show its effect.

Like you, I'd rather remain on the safe side and conserve fossil fuels and campaign for clean energy.. but not to the point of fanaticism.

It's interesting that the magnetic field would affect climate so much. Anyways, when the magnetic poles of the Earth switch, we'll have much more to worry about than 0.5°C increases in temperature. Would you happen to have a link to the theory [or some website that explains it] about the link between climate change and magnetic polarity switch?

That no-one really knows. After the latest international conference on climate change, all they could really end up claiming was that humans have an effect on the climate. This should not have been a surprise to too many people. However, the extent of that effect is apparently debatable. Part of the problem is that there is plenty of evidence of mini ice ages on the one hand, and exceptional warm weather on the other, over the centuries, and yet accurate climate measurement and recording on a daily basis is very new, in geological terms, so the scientists have very little to go on, really ( ... )

... And an hour later, after having actually watched the documentary (embarrassed grin), I now get your reference to solar and wind power (I had thought that that was a reference to the research going on in the US into fossil fuel alternatives - I was wrong). You're right of course. The demand that developing countries move to unreliable sources of energy is ridiculous at best, and malicious at worst.

There's much more to be said about this topic, but thanks for posting this documentary. I'm going to link to it as well.

I absolutely agree with you that we need to research alternatives to fossil fuels. We have to save the good stuff - fossil fuels - for more difficult times e.g. an ice age. I've studied how fossil fuels come into existence and it's not an easy/short process ( ... )

We don't make enough use of solar energy over here either. We use it for heating our water - almost exclusively - but for nothing else. But as I understand it, it would not actually be possible to put up enough solar collectors around the world, to power the electricity needs of the world. Which is not surprising, I can get one and a half tanks of hot water out of my solar heated tank on a summer day. That's not very much. Solar energy replacing other forms of energy is a pipe-dream. The people who are lobbying for increased solar power simply have not looked at the numbers. And that is irresponsible at best ( ... )
