We reached home last night.. in fact right when today had begn.
Finally done with the trip, we traveled from Zürich Flughafen [= airport] to Doha International Airport where we were in transit for about an hour and then on to Dubai.
On the plane from Zürich to Doha, I squabbled with the flight attendant. I had asked her for a vegetarian meal [this was before the plane took off] and she said that I hadn't registered to be served vegetarian food. When I told her that when booking the tickets, we had specified that we wanted two vegetarian meals, she said I should've reconfirmed with the ground staff. I got pissed off and asked her if she expected me to leave passport control and baggage aside and contact ground staff.. and she said, "Oh, no need to get upset, sir." End of story: I had vegetarian pasta with cheese for the meal. And cheesecake.
The very nice security officer at the Doha International Airport who was screening our hand luggage quickly spotted the Swiss Army knife set that I had in one of the Zürich Duty Free bags and took it away from me. When Papa and my uncle went over to him to ask him for it, he said we wouldn't get it back.
So we hurried to the security counter nearby and told a security official [who looked Indian] the story. He went away for a few minutes and then came back with another, bigger man. I thought, "Oh, these people are just gonna pass us around between different airport officials," and with that thought, I told the Indian security official a little too loudly to consider the fact that we had a plane to Dubai to catch... and he got pissed and said, "You came to me for help and I helped you." As if that wasn't enough, my brother starts yelling at me: "Danu, you're really short-tempered and you yell at everybody."
Anyways, in the end the big man led me to another guy who took me some girl who filled out a very small form and gave me a copy of it. She put the knife set in a paper envelope and said that I'd get it in Dubai. The whole time, I'd been suggesting the very same procedure and got yelled at for opening my mouth.
Home seems empty. Not much life around here. I wasn't looking forward to taking my hamsters back from Abeer.. but here they are now, mine for the next five days.
