Why Friday-Saturday? Why not Saturday-Sunday like the rest of the world? :P

Didn't you read the whole thing? :þ
Friday is the day of rest for Muslims and there's a Muslim majority here.. and this is an "Islamic" country anyways.

Sorry, I did read the whole thing... I think my question wasn't clear enough. What I meant was, why is the day Friday and not Saturday or Sunday like most other religions?

Muslim [and Biblical] tradition holds that Adam was created on Friday ["the sixth day"], so that is supposed to be a day of rest. A lot of other things happened on Fridays which make it an important day of the week.

our school used to have friday and sunday...till that thursday and friday changed occured....those days were FUN...two weekends....go out on thursday...relax on friday...go to school on saturday...in the evenin goto church...and another outing after that...relax again on sunday...

so the weekend change isnt back to the old habits for us...doesnt make much of a difference actually...coz its similar to thurs and friday

it aint gonna be weird for me to study on thursday...coz i won't be doing second year :D i'm gonna go to college!

take care

Whoa, I didn't know about your two semi-weekends.. I find it very weird now, but it must've been pretty nice for you all.

Not doing a second year?! The only other sane person from my friends circle is leaving :( *weeps*

wow. thats a whole lot of confusing. im rooting for the US to give us a three day weekend but thats not going to happen. i think if we just quit having so many damn meetings about nothing we'd be much more productive.

thats a good point about the loss of business for 4 days. in the past has this proven to be an economic problem?

Three-day weekend?! Woman, do you know that there are people who pass week after week without a weekend?! You Americans are so spoilt, I tell you :þ

It hasn't really been a problem.. but I guess it must've been for the government sector when it dealt with foreign countries. Business went on as usual even on Fridays.

Yeah, but banks and stuff would have been shut, right?

I think banks have an sort of half-day or something like that. I'm not entirely sure though.

You have to wear uniform in sixth form?

Yeah. It's a school, remember? Not like South Down's College.. though I wish it were like that.

My brother goes to the sixth form college at his school, but after GCSEs you don't have to wear uniform anymore. I think here it's only private colleges/sixth form colleges that impose uniform on A level students.

Oh.. well the public schools here are Arabic-medium and don't offer A-levels. Only private schools do.

I was always a bit puzzled that in Israel its Fri-Sat because a large minority of Arabs there are Christian...so what do they do?

Well, the large number of Palestinians working in Israel and the Territories are mostly Muslims so I think the Israeli government took them into consideration too and set the weekend as Fri-Sat.
