Somebody's just trying [very hard] to get some attention.
A group of students from Ras al-Khaimah ["Head of the Tent" in Arabic], the northernmost emirate of the UAE, are whining over an English language textbook. Why? It has Israel on its world map but not the UAE. Boo hoo.
Also, the textbook "mentions" things about straight and gay relationships. «British Accent» Oh bloody 'ell! «/accent»
So, uh, what's the problem with the UAE being ignored? The students are studying in the UAE, aren't they? And surely they know which country it is in which they're being educated... here's what they can do, as an assignment:
1. Grab pen.
2. Remove pen's cap.
3. On the shoe-shaped piece of land in the Arabian Peninsula, write carefully: U.A.E.
4. Write in Arabic: المتحدة ٲلإمارات العربية
5. Replace cap on pen.
6. Sit.
And why is the mention of straight relationships [ok, I understand the "trouble" with gay relationships] such a big problem? Don't they have any feelings towards any member of the opposite [or same] sex?
By God, these students must have a really really sad life. I thought people were supposed to become more mature and grow up once they started college.
In other news, I spent my three free periods today working for Mr Paul. Doing work that he was supposed to do :þ What he wanted us [
abhishek_kar, Danielle and me] to do was to open up the calculators that the school provides the students with during exams, and check each one's battery with a voltmeter. The opening up took so much time! There were six tiny screws to unscrew and then screw back in, once the job was done. And between the three of us, we finished about 40 in an hour and a half. 60 more to go, so I'll be working tomorrow too.
Meh, I don't mind it much.. it's just screwing, right? And I'm good at it. Though it makes my thumbs hurt. Beware! Screwing has consequences.
