I need to stop watching Sweeney Todd, I do.

This does not mean that I will not be there with bells on when my roomie wants to go. Because it was lovely and I finally got to see instead of listening to the soundtrack and making sad noises about how fast it left Broadway last time it was there.

I don't know about anyone else, really, but I kind of like having people who are somewhat unpracticed in the roles when I go to see a musical turned into a film. It gives it a certain, strange level of authenticity.

Mind you, I don't think there should be off-key caterwauling or anything - it is still meant to be a musical, but the human imperfection of the actor's voices kind of lends that humanity to the characters. When you go to Broadway, you go for the voices - but when you go to the movie theater, you go for the acting. The characters just happen to be people who live in a world where bursting into spontaneous song and dance is part of everyday life, and not everyone on the planet is going to be perfect at it.

But off of that - Mm, the colors. I'm such a sucker for pretty cinematography - the panning shots over the tiny, sooty little Burton-London (The camera going through the chimney smoke made me squeak like the dork I am.) and the winding shots through the alleyways and the sudden bursts of bright colors in 'By the Sea' and Johnny just being simply gorgeous. (Hey, I never said I wasn't petty too.)

Watching my dad visibly cringe every single time someones skull cracked on the floor made me giggle too. He's such a chicken.

In short: Mmm. Now if it would just come back to Broadway and stay there long enough for me to be able to afford tickets before it disappears on me again.
