Recently I've been reading a lot of stomp just for the fact that most of the material people produced are very laughable. I mean come on, i know it's stereotypical to say that Singaporeans love to complain but, in every sense stomp makes it sound so true. Many of the topics are of people showing PDA in public, people drinking and eating on public transport, not giving up seats, sleeping on buses and bad customer service. I mean how are these things considered news worthy? The thing is the topic only provides readers a chance to complain more and nothing else. I will admit that there are some posts that are worth taking note of but, frankly speaking that's like one out of ten stories.
Another thing that's truly disgusting is the way many of the writer's choose to put in some sort of shit towards foreigners. The aunty at the food court very rude, definitely Chinese. The Indian man sleeping on the bus and taking up two seats..should have some manners or go back to his country. Like WTF? Let's be realistic here and stop putting the hate into these stories. As a citizen journalist, one should still try hard to be objective and unbiased. I mean blame the rule makers or whoever else that allowed these people to come into the country rather than venting the hate and anger on these people. Don't you know that foreigners are coming into Singapore because they had the chance to and because they're all looking for a better life for themselves and their family? Many of those living in Singapore have left families back home, facing the lowest wages while working their ass off. Let's not be judgemental to those who are paving your roads, cleaning the tables you eat at and serving you as maids.
Yes, surely some of these foreigners are obnoxious, loud and an eye-sore to the public but, this concerns all races around the world and not just those who step into Singapore. Let's face it, nobody is perfect and there are bound to be individuals who make the rest of the people look bad.
Anyway back to my point. In other countries citizen journalism is more than just taking a picture of two people making out in public and then telling the rest of the readers that such an act should not be tolerated. I mean just recently in America with all the storms happening, people are taking pictures and video footages of cyclones and hurricanes. These events are important because much of it cannot be covered by actual news presenters because of the dangers involved. Moreover, citizen journalism is a device for third world nations and countries with limited democracy to be able to give information about events happening in their country to the rest of the world.
I mean come on, let's produce real news stompers instead of things you want to complain of. I just wish the term for citizen journalism can be more appreciated. Stomp shouldn't call themselves, I quote, "the leader in citizen journalism", if it doesn't know what citizen journalism means. It should just be considered a complaint forum instead.
