Writers block takes a hit...

Apr 23, 2009 18:48

Hmmmm, I think I may have broken my writers block, at least for a little bit and wrote what I think is the start of an original story that I've have running around in my head for some time. Let me share with you the first words that I have written in a little over a month. Please tell me what you think.

She stopped.

It seemed like as good a place as any. It was bright, easily accessible and a little bit dirty. She looked down and couldn't help but wonder if it was high enough. She didn't feel that usual odd feeling that was the vertigo setting in. In fact, there was not even the slightest hint of dizziness at all. That struck her as odd. She wondered if it was the knowing that chased the fear away, having made it this far pushing it away, needing to do this, wanting it, the finality of it making her more courageous than she thought possible.

There was someone else there, she was aware of him in the vague way that one is always aware of other people around them, but she didn't care. She was here for her and she was going to do this. She grabbed the chain link in one hand and stepped up. The placement and width of the gap was perfect, like it had been erected with her in mind and the thought actually made her happy.

"Miss, what are you doing?"

She ignored him, missing the intonation of worry that stretched his voice thin in the middle and may have given a clue as to what was about to happen. She leaned farther out, this had to be right, had to be perfect. She wouldn't have some random stranger distracting her, ruining this moment. Just a little farther -and there it was, she found it, it was perfect. She smiled and shuffled her feet slightly, she just needed to...

Then it was gone, she felt the hand around her wrist, felt her footing slip as she was yanked backwards. Her right arm went in the opposite direction from the rest of her body, hampering her grip and she watched in dismay as it went tumbling, end over end, out of sight. She tried to cry out, to say something but couldn't. The hand at her wrist and arm now at her waist were still pulling, it all happened too fast.

The back of her head caught a shoulder, hard, and then it was fade to black.
