Wow, it's been a while. Been wanting to write about something for a while now. Weekly D&D sessions with a new group seemed like a good excuse. There was a small group of us that couldn't make it home for Christmas, so I hosted a one-shot Christmas Special. We had a lot of fun. There was a Gingerbread Dragon, Sugar Plum Fairies, and everyone got presents from Santa.
Today we got together and created characters for a new campaign. We're using the Iron Kingdoms setting, and we'll be utilizing the Witchfire Trilogy for a large portion of the campaign. We've already had some very memorable moments as a group, whether it be the flirtatious rogue that took an arrow to the shoulder for sassing Mrs. Claus or the rogue who nearly died in the opening goblin ambush of the new campaign. Now that I think about it, rogues seem to be an unlucky play choice in our group.
I continued a tradition passed down to me by my first gaming group: I opened the campaign with a showing of Dead Gentlemen Productions masterpiece, The Gamers. It immediately became a group favorite and in just the first session, in-jokes referencing the movie were made.
My decision to create Player Character Questionnaires seems to have been one of my wisest as a DM so far. The guys really seemed to take to the concept with open minds, and it has paid off in great character development. I can't wait to see each player's journey unfold.
