I've had free checking through my credit union for 16 years... until this month. I call them & they say if I'm calling about the new monthly fee its because I haven't enrolled in electronic statements. So apparently they will charge over 10 times the price of a stamp ($5) to mail you your statement now. When I called, their phone message said they notified people with their June (or maybe July) statement. I keep everything mailed from them except the lame newsletter they send (which is just a flyer advertising more of their services) and I didn't see anything. Funny thing - if you go in and request a print-out, they only charge $2. With prices like that, Kinko's is in no danger of going out of business. Regarding that charge I sent my bank the following through their website:
"I looked through my past correspondence from you regarding this new "fee" as the phone message stated, and unless the notice was in an issue of Currency (which I never read because it never has any information pertaining to me) I did not get it. I guess that's what I get for 16 years of free checking and & never reading the newsletter. I can imagine the credit union raked in a lot of money from this new fee... enjoy and don't spend it all in one place."
