“Hello!” Kevin said cheerfully, walking into Nora’s kitchen. He kissed her on the cheek and gave Saul a smile and a wave across the counter, oblivious to the rather somber atmosphere in the room.

“You’re in a good mood,” Nora observed, trying not to be obvious that there were other things on her mind.

“I am. Very much.”

“What’s going on?”

Kevin looked at Saul quickly, then turned back to Nora with a smile. “I’m getting hitched.”

Nora’s mouth dropped open. All other topics disappeared from her thoughts.

“Really?”

“Yes.”

“Really?!”

“Yes!” Kevin said, laughing.

Nora pulled him into a hug, crying happily. “Oh, honey. This is so great. You and Scotty, it’s just perfect.”

“Congratulations, Kevin!” Saul said.

Kevin pulled back from Nora, focusing on his uncle as they quickly shook hands across the counter.

“What am I doing?” Saul exclaimed, standing up and using their handclasp to pull Kevin into a hug.

“When?” Nora asked. “What do you need me to do?”

“Saturday, the 22nd.” Kevin said hesitantly. “And if you’ll just let us have it here, that’s - ”

“Next month?! I mean, I can do it. If I call the florist on Monday, and the - ”

“No. Mom, no flowers.”

“Why so soon?” Saul interrupted.

Kevin shrugged. “Between Scotty’s work schedule, and Robert’s campaign, it’s either that weekend or six months from now. We don’t want to wait that long. And so we figured, why not?” Kevin paused, looking at Saul. “Obviously it can’t be anything, you know, government-approved, but Saul, we’d…we’d love it if you’d officiate.”

Saul put a hand to his chest. “I’d be honored.”

Kevin smiled, nodding.

“Who better to start you two on your path than an older gay man?” Saul said quickly.

Kevin had been refocusing on Nora, and he whipped his head around to face Saul. Saul gave him a small smile.

“That’s what we were just talking about,” Nora said quietly.

***

“What?” Scotty exclaimed, walking out of the kitchen with two drinks in hand.

Kevin shook his head, still somewhat in disbelief as he took the drink from Scotty and downed half of it.

“Saul? Your uncle Saul? Is gay?”

“Apparently.”

“I don’t get it. I usually have amazing gaydar.”

“I mean, it makes sense. I’ve never known him to have any girlfriends. How many 60-year-old men do you know who have never had a serious relationship with a woman?”

Scotty shrugged. “So is he going to start dating now, do you think?”

“I don’t know. It’d be kind of weird, huh?”

“Not really. It’s going to be weirder for me when my dad starts dating.”

Kevin stared at Scotty, confused.

“I called him today. He’s very excited, and is planning on leaving work early that Friday so he can get here before, you know, midnight.”

“That’s great.”

Scotty nodded. “He’s coming alone. Which is not unexpected. The fact that he’s filed for divorce was a little bit of a surprise.”

“Oh God. I’m sorry.”

Scotty shrugged, shaking his head. “It’s hard for me to get that upset about it. Whether they’re married or not, I still have no relationship with my mom. I feel guilty, obviously, because I’m sure my situation didn’t really help with their marital bliss. But I never really understood how they managed to stay married this long anyway. I don’t remember them ever being really happy together.”

Kevin nodded. “Still, it’s gotta be a bit of a blow.”

Scotty swallowed. “A little bit, yeah. I can’t help but wonder if it’s a sign, happening now when - ”

Kevin walked over, pulling him into a hug. “It’s not,” he said firmly. “It’s not. That’s not how it is between us. We’re absolutely right for each other and definitely happy. And we’re in this for the long haul.”

Scotty nodded, holding Kevin tightly.

***

The month went by unbelievably quickly. Everyone eagerly wanted to help out some way or another, and things got planned relatively stress-free (by the Walkers’ standards, at least). Most of Scotty’s friends could only get off work one night that weekend, so he had his bachelor party the week before. Which worked out well, because he could then spend the night before the ceremony relaxing as he waited for his dad. Maybe he’d do some yoga or something. At the moment, though, Scotty was checking his e-mail. There was a knock at the door, and he checked the clock; it was far too early to be his dad. He had a feeling he knew who it was, and that suspicion was confirmed when Kevin walked through the living room, clearly resigned to his fate. Kevin opened the door to reveal a grinning Tommy and Justin.

“Kevin! It’s time to celebrate your holy man-trimony!”

Scotty started laughing.

“Seriously?” Kevin complained.

Tommy reached out, grabbing his arm and pulling him into the hall. Justin pointed at Scotty.

“Don’t go anywhere! Rumor has it you’re not off the hook.”

Scotty watched after them, confused, as they closed the door. He heard the sound of voices disappearing. Then he shook his head, putting Justin’s warning out of his mind. Only twenty minutes later, however, there was another knock on the door.

Scotty looked up, feeling slightly worried. Then he stood, walking over to pull open the door, not quite sure who to expect on the other side. It was quite an odd mixture of people, individuals he rarely saw without their significant others - Robert, Julia and Tyler (about three weeks from her due date and absolutely enormous).

“Hi,” Scotty said cautiously.

Robert smiled at him. “It’s the night before you take the most inadvisable action of your life - joining us in the small group of people crazy enough to marry a Walker.”

Tyler nodded. “You deserve one last fight-less meal. And some alcohol.”

Julia lifted a colorful party horn to her lips, blowing it once.

Scotty burst into laughter.

The Walkers-in-law dropped Scotty off at Nora’s, saying it was bad luck for him to see Kevin again before the ceremony. He stumbled into the kitchen, not drunk but quite a bit tipsy. He exclaimed in surprise when he saw his father sitting at the counter, chatting quietly with Nora.

“You made it! I thought you were going to call me when you got to town.”

Wally gestured at Nora. “Nora called me a couple hours ago to let me know you were out celebrating. So we had our own dinner party as parents of the groom and groom.”

“Ah,” Scotty said, resting his forearm on Wally’s shoulder and smiling at Nora in greeting. Then he turned back to his father and asked, “Have you got your hotel room yet?”

“No, he’s staying here! How many times do I have to tell you these things, Scotty? Honestly.” Nora shook her head in exasperation, pushing a cup of coffee towards Scotty.

Scotty waved his hand. “No, thank you. I think I’m going to have a glass of water and go to bed. Don’t want a hangover tomorrow.”

“Good plan,” Wally said, grinning.

Scotty walked over to the cupboard and then the sink, while Nora and Wally returned to their conversation.

***

Scotty woke up with a shock, heart beating wildly as he tried to figure out what was happening - and whose hand was covering his mouth.

“Shh! Shh, it’s OK!” came a harsh whisper.

Kevin removed his hand; Scotty, his eyes adjusting to the dim light, stared at Kevin as he came into focus.

“What are you doing?” Scotty hissed. “It’s bad luck to see each other - ”

“Oh, come on. Besides that’s only the morning of, I think. Or not seeing the dress or something, which I’m pretty sure you’re not going to be wearing a dress, so I think we’re OK.”

“Are you drunk?”

“No! Well, a little.”

“Kevin!”

“I wanted to see you. Don’t worry; I took a cab. Once Tommy and Justin decided I suffered enough and brought me home.”

Scotty looked at him through narrowed eyes. “Did you go to a strip club?”

Kevin didn’t say anything.

“Kevin.”

“Yes.”

Scotty rolled his eyes. “I’m trying to be annoyed, but the idea of your brothers surrounded by male strippers is too damn funny.”

“They tried to buy me a lap dance, but I wouldn’t let them,” Kevin admitted.

“And so you came to confess?” Scotty asked, fighting a smile.

Kevin tilted his head back and forth. “Kind of,” he said, smirking.

Scotty stifled laughter. “Oh, I see. You’re a little…randy.”

“It’s your last night as a single man, Austin Powers. You don’t want to do something wild and crazy?”

Scotty stared at him, biting his lip as he considered the temptation. Finally, he shook his head. “Your mom and my dad are just down the hall.”

“Together?!”

“No! God!” Scotty sighed, shaking his head. “Kevin…go home. I’ll see you in the morning.”

Kevin looked at him sadly.

“You’ll get plenty of sex tomorrow,” Scotty promised.

Kevin shook his head. “It’s not that. Tomorrow’s - it’s the biggest, most important day of our lives. So far, at least. And I’ve had to spend tonight with Justin and Tommy and oiled-up, barely-clothed, muscular - ”

“I get the picture,” Scotty said, clipping his consonants.

“The only person I wanted to be with was you,” Kevin said sincerely.

Scotty looked at him tenderly. Finally, he closed his eyes and exhaled. Pushing aside the covers, he climbed out of bed, grabbed Kevin’s hand and led him out of the bedroom.

“Where are we going?” Kevin whispered.

“Shh,” Scotty replied as they walked quickly and quietly past the other bedrooms and hurried down the stairs. “I want to fulfill a fantasy before I get married. Not to mention, I don’t trust you to be quiet.”

“Fantasy?” Kevin asked, grinning.

“Figures that’s the part you’d pick up on,” Scotty observed as he pulled open the back door. He led Kevin to the edge of the pool, dropping his hand so he could remove his boxers. “Take your clothes off.”

Kevin stared at him warily as he reached up to unbutton his shirt. “You’re going to trick me and run off with my clothes, aren’t you?”

Scotty snickered. “No,” he promised. “It’s a full moon. I want to go skinny-dipping and end with pool-sex.”

“That’s your fantasy?” At Scotty’s nod, Kevin continued, “You have some really vanilla tastes, you know that?”

“Do you wanna get laid or not?” Scotty asked, slipping into the water with a quiet splash and a not-so-quiet gasp at the temperature.

Kevin chuckled as he finished removing his clothes. “If it’s that cold, this might not work after all.”

He joined Scotty in the water, reaching out for him. Scotty avoided his hand, pushing off the wall and swimming away.

“We’ll warm each other up,” Scotty said.

Kevin caught up to him almost immediately - partly because Scotty wasn’t trying all that hard to get away. In only a few minutes, they were both well-adjusted to the temperature of the pool and were definitely not feeling the night air around them either. Kevin had Scotty backed into one corner right over a jet, and he was kissing Scotty with all the love and passion he could. Scotty propped himself up, lifting his legs and wrapping them around Kevin’s waist. Kevin’s cock slid along his entrance, aided by the slipperiness of the water. Kevin groaned deep in his throat, and Scotty broke the kiss, leaning back and resting his head on the rough surface of the pool deck. Kevin pulled Scotty’s hips higher and closer, until he was practically horizontal. Water splashed over the edge of the pool with every thrust, streaming over Scotty's shoulders and through his hair.

Scotty opened his eyes, staring at the night sky and breathing heavily as Kevin increased his rhythm. Kevin moved steadily, tight between Scotty’s legs and the cleft of his ass. He brought one hand to Scotty, fondling him. Scotty moaned, twisting and lifting himself almost completely out of the water as Kevin continued to pleasure him. Finally, Kevin thrust once, twice more before climaxing with a choked-off cry. Between the feel of Kevin’s orgasm and the sensation of the jet just underneath and behind him, Scotty couldn’t hold on any longer. He came, losing his grip and slipping below the surface of the water.

Kevin wrapped his arms underneath Scotty’s, pulling him back up and into a hug. “Please don’t drown the night before our ceremony,” he said with a breathless laugh.

Scotty let his legs drift back down to the bottom of the pool, pulling himself closer to Kevin. Eyes closed, he sighed. “I love you. I can’t wait to marry you.”

Kevin smiled softly. “I promise to spend the rest of my life filling as many sex fantasies of yours as possible.”

Scotty started laughing. “That’s not going to be part of your vows tomorrow, is it?”

“It’ll be implied.”

“Good. I’ll be holding you to it.”

“Whatever you want, I swear.”

“There’s this one about a wounded World War II soldier and a male nurse in a bombed-out French cathedral,” Scotty informed him, somewhat saucily.

Kevin burst into loud laughter.

“Shhh! Shhh! Shut up!”

A light turned on inside the house. Kevin and Scotty both turned to look, panicked. After a few minutes, it turned off again. Scotty sighed in relief. Then he turned back to Kevin.

“You better go,” he said sadly.

“Yeah,” Kevin said, nodding. “See you…later today.”

“No cold feet!”

“I’ll be the one with warm feet. And if we don’t get out of this pool right now, they’ll also be really pruny.”
