I just saw the original theatrical ending to Blade Runner today on Bravo. I don't know why they were showing that cut- because as far as I can tell you can't buy it on dvd and when pete and I saw it in theaters a ways back they showed the 'director's cut' ending. Man did that ever suck. No one else cares about this, but this is my crappy little soapbox, and Blade Runner is one of my favorite movies and DADOES is one of my favorite books and I like totally shoved it in someone's face (sorry someone) when Ridley Scott announced that he meant Deckard to be a replicant, so I'm gonna write about this all I want. Anyway, The director ending 'crazy what's going on? I'm totally lost where'd that come from?' is way better than 'beautiful nature scenery (which by all accounts in the plot doesn't exist any more) with noir voice over about indeterminate amounts of robot lovin'. I guess this movie came out right after star wars, and probably seen as a crappy sci fi movie cashing in on space opera popularity, which is crappy because it seems like most PKD adaptations have been crappy (Paycheck, Screamers, Imposter, being big flops) but it's possible that they were just crappy stories to begin with. I haven't read those ones. On a promising note though, there have been good adaptations of his work (total recall, minority report, blade runner!!) and the new A Scanner Darkly looks amazing. Hopefully it will be.
My house is free all week if people want to hang out.
