Happy New Year

Remember back in 2010 how I gave up eating chips for Lent? I decided to try and do the same thing, but for a full year this time. So on December 31, 2010, I had some Combos with my dinner (a Publix sub). And that was it... The challenge was on at midnight!

I made it! One full year without eating chips. And it was tough, because I'm a damn chipaholic. Now, just how do I define "chips"? Potato chips, Doritos, etc. are a given, obviously. What about Cheez-Its and Combos? Well, I decided to define a chip as anything that I have gone into the kitchen for, poured into a bowl, and snacked on. So all those snacks I listed above were out.

It was tough. You don't realize it, but chips are everywhere! Tortilla chips they give you for free at various Mexican restaurants. Potato chips that came with your meal at other restaurants. Side item chips at Subway, Jimmy John's, and Jersey Mike's... Whew! Chips had become such a standard part of my diet that I started to have freaking dreams where I would be eating chips and suddenly remember my resolution, then it would dawn on me that I had broken it and I'd be so pissed at myself... And then I'd wake up. Good lord!

But hey... It's January 1, 2012 and I made it. :) I didn't have the same success with weight loss that I had during Lent, unfortunately... But other factors went into that. I'm proud of myself for making it a full year here. It shows that I do have willpower and if I put my mind to it, I can accomplish anything. 2012 is going to be an awesome year!
