I was on my way back from the gym, and I noticed that everyone in my turning lane was swerving to the right as they made their turn. The reason? There was a laptop lying over toward the left side of the lane! I checked it out when I went by; I could see the Gateway logo on top and the thing looked to be in really good condition. The battery cover was lying beside it; and looked like the only thing that had come loose in its journey to the pavement.
I decided to go back and get it.
I guess I should point out that the intersection where it was (Capital Circle and Mahan Drive) is known for being the most dangerous in Tallahassee. Probably not the smartest thing I've ever done, but hey - free laptop! :-P I circled around and parked at a gas station across the street. I waited my turn to cross the road as the new batch of left-turners made their turns. Like with my bunch, everyone swerved to the right to avoid the computer... Except, OF COURSE, for the last friggin' truck.
*CRUNCH!*
Damn! I still "rescued" the laptop, but I knew it was a lost cause. It's dead. A shame, too. The sticker on it says "Windows XP Enabled - Windows Vista Capable." That means it was pretty recent; less than a year old.
"The Departed"
Oh well... I tried! Something tells me that even if I had gotten to it before the truck, there's probably a reason it was lying in the middle of a six-lane road in the first place. :-/
