Not about politics... really...

Just a brief update on what is going on with me aside from staring at election news and feeling sad.

My semester is well underway. I am officially not a fan of having all three classes on two days. By the time I finish my six hours of lecturing without a break on Wednesday, I feel more than a little like death. That said, my students are great this year. It may be luck of the draw, but I have a large number of students this time around who are actively and actually reading the material - which makes class much more pleasant for all of us. Online teaching continues as well, but is not as exciting.

I've secured all the gear that I'll need for the upcoming deluge of weddings - DJ gear is on the way, and formal wear has been fitted. I'm wondering if I should offer my services as a very occasional wedding/other DJ after this fall's wedding season wraps up, or if I've just purchased the most awesome basement sound system ever...

I've been writing, and also doing bits and pieces of extra work on the house, as well - although the pace of that has slowed, because I'm pretty busy, and because there aren't any mission-critical projects left, just bits and pieces of prettification and tinkering. I have a crafting agenda for next summer, though, and I'm going to need to start on that fairly soon - I'm not sure if I'll want to try to work in the garage during the winter. I *could* heat it, since it is insulated, but that would be an extra expense, and I'm not sure how much time I'll have.

Finally, I've been puttering with some of my fiction. I don't have the will to really write for a long period of time, since writing is mostly about dissertation slogging right now, but I've started a couple of new stories, and am making halting progress on some older ones. I might post a bit from the beginning of one new story, but I'm still debating whether I want to inflict that on anyone. Perhaps a filter. =>
